i'll tell you this for free - i don't give a good god damn about heaven and hell and sam's demon powers and dean giving himself over to heaven and ruby and castiel and lilith and lucifer and the celestial war and all that crap. i just want to write all that shit out of the story so we can focus on the boys and get them back together.
and yet i'm still going to talk about it....
"they're supposed to make you miserable - they're family!" i love me some bobby, seriously. but i don't think trying to compare dean to john is going to convince dean to call his brother.... do you really think dean believes that a. john was a coward, and b. dean's a better man?

well, dean is apologizing, and is reaching out, so maybe bobby got thru to him....
sam torturing this poor demon is more inhuman/demonic than just exorcising her with the power of his spicy brain. yeesh. smart of her to turn the body over to its original inhabitant, tho, and just kind of ride in the background. i'm going to assume sam isn't so far gone that he's going to bleed her while she's still human.
the angels are going to let lilith break the seal and let lucifer out? why? they just want to bring about paradise a little sooner? and let billions of people die? man, the angels really aren't any better than demons, are they. i actually kind of like that. obviously they don't think sam will stop lilith - my guess is they're planning on him finally going darkside and actually helping the apocalypse along.
aaaaand the angels are in charge, and not god? huh. the inmates are running the asylum.
ten bucks says castiel helps dean after all.
(i could say that if the last seal breaks in this episode, and s5 starts with lucifer walking free, i won't be watching come september. i could say it, but i think it'd be a lie.)
dean, honey, it's a little too late to kick against heaven. i'm not surprised he'd rather suffer his guilt and his demony brother than dance for heaven and let billions of people die for no good reason. saving people, hunting things, y'know?

so did the angels deliberately plant the idea that killing lilith breaks the final seal, in order to get sam to kill her and unknowingly bring about armageddon? they've been totally manipulating the boys from the get-go?
and ruby's been manipulating sam.... which, ok, no big surprise there. i always figured she was working in her own best interests, which weren't necessarily sam's best interests. she's been trying to separate him and dean just like the angels have, and he's been letting her.
hee, ad for my bloody valentine 3d on dvd. and for ten inch hero! well, that one's deliberately placed.
well, damn. ruby knew the whole time. and she wanted to break lucifer free to get back in hell's good graces, and bring about armageddon a little early, just as the angels wanted paradise. i gotta admire how parallel that is. the season finale is lucifer rising, the premiere was lazarus rising.... there's gotta be some nice meta just waiting to be written about the various parallels and mirrored scenes in this episode.
...i may or may not have just thrown my arms up and yelled "YES!" in big capital letters. *ahem* sam holds her still and dean stabs her and twists the knife. finally they're both on the same page.

i liked that one a lot more than i was expecting to. ok, kripke, you got me for at least the premiere of the next season. but only because you (no doubt temporarily) got the boys back together. you're still on notice for lucifer and the very christian apocalypse.
but, uh, what happened to the prophet chuck and the angel castiel? i kinda wanted to see the archangel.
