thing i noticed while writing holiday cards: apparently most people prefer to put the return address on the front of the envelope. i of course put it on the back. and, uh, at the bottom.... hey, at least all the stamps are right-side-up. if you should get a card from someone named cindy who lives in somerville, mass, and you have no idea who that is, that's me. :D altho i did stick my lj name in a couple cards in a fit of paranoia....
anyway.
we're supposed to get snow tomorrow so of course the city of somerville in its infinite wisdom and infallible *coughcough* weather predicting [1] has canceled school ahead of time and called a snow emergency. (this means you can only park on one side of the street, so theoretically the plows can actually plow. moving your car and finding a place to put it is a mahoosive pain in the ass. fortunately my building has a driveway and i'm in it.) i'll bet you money we only get, like, two inches of snow. however! i went to the grocery store and have gas in my car and need to do the laundry but am otherwise totally prepared for the six or so inches they think we'll get.
[1] the current mayor, in his first winter as mayor, declared a snow emergency before it started to snow - you can call it up to six hours ahead of the predicted start of snowfall, i think - tons of people were ticketed for parking on the wrong side of the street, a large number were towed, and... we didn't see one snowflake. all those parking tickets were revoked, but everyone who had to pay $110 or however much it was to get their cars out of the tow yard were shit out of luck. the mayor got a lot of flak for that, as you can imagine. but now they call snow emergencies way ahead of any actual snow.
dorkitude,
holiday cards,
