Chapter Sixteen - Endurance
“Ryu…,”
Yuya stared on in shock, his mind taking forever to process what had just happened. His younger team mate had fallen after being electrocuted. He touched the wired fence and frowned as he felt live current. Current in a fence that had been inactive from the time they had first found it… How could it be?
His peripheral vision was quick to catch something poking out from beneath the mass of leaves on his right and he scowled.
It wasn’t just another camera, but a very obviously placed one.
“Ryu,RYU!”
When the boy didn’t respond, Yuya felt his heart begin to pound. Sweat was getting in his eyes as he grabbed hold of the fence, watched it sparkle under his touch.
He had to get back down.
“Stop,”
He stared as the boy stirred.
“Don’t…come down… keep… going,”
“RYU!”
“Not so… loud,”
“I’ll be right down,”
Ryutaro coughed and groaned as he tried to sit up but winced as it hurt… bad.
“Yuya… you come… down here and… I… kill you,”
“But why?”
“I’ll be fine… but we don’t… have time… I think… I think I know why you found this place,”
Yuya frowned at the strange bluish layer that had appeared before him. The air was heavy and it emitted a strange repulsive force that would
not let him climb down the fence.
“Ryu, I can’t leave you,” he began desperately.
“I promise,” the boy responded, pushing himself up into a sitting position.
“Get to the top, and I’ll be… right behind you… please… I want Ryosuke out of there… as soon as possible,”
“This is absurd,”
“I’ll touch… the fence… again…,”
Yuya stared at the stubborn boy in disbelief. There was a desperate plea in his big round eyes. He sighed in defeat.
“If I don’t see you in the next ten minutes, I’m coming back down,”
Ryutaro managed a grin.
“Challenge… accepted,”
Yuya shook his head and turned around quickly as he heard a distant ‘ting’. Frowning he walked to where the flat promontory ended and the steep climb began. He placed his hands against the rock and his eyes widened as he felt more current. He snapped his fingers and the rock shuddered before pulling apart revealing a hidden passageway.
He blinked in the dimly lit and long hallway, at the end of which was a functioning elevator.
“What the heck is this place?”

Ryutaro sighed as he felt arms supporting him back onto his feet. He was still shaking.
“You okay?”
“Yeah… you should… get back to… Yuto though, he’s probably… freaking out,”
Yuri nodded with a sigh. Ryutaro’s breathing was still pretty uneven.
“I was on a tree top when I spotted you falling, you gave me quite a scare there Ryu-tan,”
“Yeah… but I’m fine… sore all over and…,”
“Ryu your hands!”
The boy pursed his still-quivering thin lips, starring at the bleeding slashes on both his palms. That explains the pain.
“I have a first aid kit…,”
“Yuri, I need… to… help Yuya,”
“And you will, right after I patch you up, we will teleport to where Yuya is,”
“You… can… do that?”
Yuri raised an eyebrow, a very classical expression of ‘are you seriously doubting me?’. Ryu smiled uncomfortably.

“Kota-kun…KOTA-KUN?”
Sakura ran, her heart pounding painfully in her chest as she peered in cell after cell.
She held back a sob of relief as she saw a pair of hands sticking out from the third last cell from the end of the hallway. She skidded to a halt and fell on her knees as the hands grabbed hers.
“Are you alright?” she asked, voice breaking at the sight of the pale faced boy. Kota shook his head.
“I’m so glad you’re here… please Sakura… Ryosuke… he’s… I need you to take a look at him,”
She followed his gaze as he turned to the still figure sitting in a dark corner of the cell. She squinted through the dim lighting and gasped as she spotted the blade.
“How… how could they do this to him?” she whispered in horror and disbelief. Kota squeezed her hands. His eyes were wild and bloodshot.
“Please try to find a way to get in here… he’s not responding… I don’t know what to do!”
Kota was hysterical. She had never seen him in this state.
Nodding she got to her feet, touching the bars and looking around for a way to open them. She jumped as she felt a tap oh her shoulder.
“Let me help,”
“Keito-kun!”
Sakura held out her arms instinctively as the boy swayed but he grabbed the bars of Kota’s cell to steady himself.
“Keito, are you alright?” Kota asked anxiously. The boy nodded, though still dazed.
“Move back,” he ordered and Kota obeyed.
Keito stared at the bars underneath his fingers for a few minutes, obvious droplets of sweat forming on his forehead as the others watched in silent anxiety. For almost 5 minutes, nothing seemed to happen but then all of a sudden the metallic bars underwent a change in colour from a deep gray to a stunning bronze and then, one bar at a time, the entire cell door collapsed into a heap of sand on the floor. Keito then made a staggering leap into the cell, falling to his knees next to his best friend.
“Ryosuke?” he called out shakily, blinking back tears at the way the younger was staring at the floor, eyes glazed over, looking almost lifeless.
His skin was pale as if drained of blood.
He felt Sakura kneel next to him, cautiously feeling the boy’s forehead and then for a pulse. He frowned, she seemed a little too pale… but then, with the sight before them, he couldn’t blame her.
“He begged me to pull that sword out, and I almost did… believe me I almost ripped it out of him… but then… I couldn’t… I didn’t want to kill him… and I know Quicksilver wanted me to…,”
Keito crawled over to Kota and attempted to calm him down as Sakura examined the boy. To her dread, she could not immediately figure out what was exactly wrong with him. The wound made around the sword was rimmed with blood and on further inspection, she realized that his body had attempted to heal around the injury, resulting in a slight change in anatomy. His healing ability would have become the reason for an instant death… Ishikawa was brilliant… and cruel beyond belief.
“You were right to not pull it out Kota-kun,” she began with a heavy sigh. She scowled at a sudden wave of nausea and dizziness but fought it down and spoke again.
“It would have caused more damage than the initial injury,”
“What’s wrong with him right now?” Keito asked confused.
“I think..,” Sakura began, her palm hovering over the boy’s chest. She had her eyes closed, visions of his internal structures registering in her mind. Her eyes then snapped open and she found herself gazing into his darker than usual eyes.
“He’s in a… coma…”
