Chapter Four - Piece by Piece
“I think it’s going to rain again,” Hikaru spoke, leaning against the glass. The plant next to him purred.
“I wasn’t talking to you,” he grunted and scurried away as the flower leaned towards him. Kota managed a small smile at the scene. His eyes then drifted back to the kitchen counter where Kei was sitting quietly on a stool, staring at his hands. It was really difficult to tell what the younger man was thinking so he waited…for someone, anyone…to tell him…
“What is going on?” he breathed out, ruffling his hair in frustration. He felt a gentle squeeze on his shoulder and looked up to meet Yuya’s concerned gaze.
“We’ll figure it out. We’re all together aren’t we?” said the other man with a sincere smile. Kota nodded with a sigh.
“Kei-chan?”
Kei looked up as Yuri entered the kitchen, grabbing hold of a kettle and filling it with water before setting it on the stove.
“Are you alright?” he asked, still bustling around for mugs and milk.
“I didn’t plan on it…I just…felt like I could…so I did…,”
Yuri turned to look at him and nodded with a smile.
“Because of you, he is sound asleep…it’s actually pretty neat…you and Dai-chan make a great team…with your mind control prowess and all,”
Kei shook his head.
“I could have put him in a coma…I really need to learn the extent of this…I can’t believe I acted so irrationally,”
“You acted on instinct,” Kota interjected, accepting the mug of hot chocolate from Yuri.
“And we’re glad for the outcome, now don’t dwell on what could have happened…work with Daiki…we might need your abilities,”
Kei nodded and smiled thankfully as Yuri handed him a mug as well.
“You know, I have a bad feeling that we haven’t seen the last of ‘Organization Quicksilver’,” Hikaru added taking the stool next to Kei.
“Yeah, and we’ve been a little too relaxed despite them having made personal attacks on us,” said Yuya, helping Yuri with the remaining drinks.
“See, the problem is…,” Kota began.
“We have no idea what they actually want with us,”
All eyes turned to Daiki as he stepped out of the bedroom and closed the door behind him. He was staring at the floor.
“What’s up?” Hikaru asked. Daiki stared at them, expression grim.
“He’s mumbling in his sleep,”
“He does that Dai-chan, it’s a norm,” Yuri replied flabbergasted.
Daiki sighed.
“He wants us to kill him,”
There was a heavy silence following the revelation and it seemed to last painfully long.
“What do you mean?” Kota said finally.
“He keeps saying it, please…kill me…I don’t really know what to make of it…Yuto and Keito are pretty much distraught, Ryutaro’s not talking, I think he’s scared even though he isn’t saying anything,”
Kota jumped as his phone rang. The remaining watched him take the call to the balcony before resuming their staring at the floor.
“He knows something about that junior’s incident doesn’t he? Maybe that’s why Detective Tanaka’s words had such an effect on him,” Yuri mused.
“Then why isn’t he saying anything?” Kei exclaimed.
“How do you explain something like Organization Quicksilver?” Hikaru suddenly said, dark brown eyes widened in realization. There was more silence as the thought sunk in.
“But…why that junior? Why would they attack him?” said Yuya, confused. They all fell into thoughts interrupted only when Kota came back into the apartment.
“Alright, pack light, we’re leaving tomorrow,” he said, ashen faced.
“Where?” Hikaru asked taken aback at the sudden announcement.
“The whole Yuto and the bookmark incident…its caught interest of the armed forces… apparently the signals from the transmitter they found on Yuto match those the navy have been investigating for a while,”
“Oh my God…,” Kei groaned, burying his face in his hands.
“The agency wants us to disappear while they handle the investigation, if we stay here…the negative publicity will be the end of us,” Kota continued, trying to calm himself down.
“I’ve called Sakura, she’s coming with us. We leave an hour before dawn…now get moving!”
