Chapter Three - Misconception of Ignorance
“Good morning Jun,”
The woman smiled despite their being no reply to her greeting. Her lips curled slightly in the sweetest of manner as she placed her bag on the couch along with a basket of apples and pears before pulling up a chair and taking her usual place by the hospital bed. The rhythmic beeping was the only other sound in the room and even though it ached her heart that the only sound her son could make was so mechanical, she continued smiling as she ran her fingers through his soft hair.
“You’re getting thinner Jun, wake up fast so I can feed you,” she chided good naturedly, leaning her head on his limp arm. She remained that way, aimlessly staring at the table that fell in her line of vision. After a couple of minutes of gazing blankly, she sat upright as she realized what she was looking at was a bouquet of fresh carnations along with a Tupperware box.
“Let’s see, it was Tempura yesterday,” she sighed as she walked over to the table and pulled open the lid. She smiled at the warmth of the carefully wrapped Onigiri and gave her son an impatient look.
“I’ve become a glutton Jun, it’s not fair…every morning your secret admirer brings you all of your favourite things to eat but I end up finishing it all by myself,”
She shook her head with a chuckle, marveling at how pretty the carnations were.
“I’ve asked at the front desk, the nurses…and they all tell me the same thing, they’ve never caught this person, must not stand out much…do you know who this visitor is Jun? One nurse says she’s spotted a person in a hoodie and medical mask walking down this hallway with carnations in hand. Maybe, this person is your mysterious visitor. Jun you made a friend! And look, you used to complain about how you didn’t have any!”
Her eyes watered as she bit into the food, tasting her son’s favourite filling.
“Unless you want me to finish it all by myself again, you better wake up and take it from me!”

"Alright everyone, good work today,”
The head photographer for the shoot shook his head good-naturedly as his words were replied by a chorus of grunts and sighs and amongst them only one enthusiastic ‘otskaresamadeshita’.
“Yuto, you’re all sunshine and rainbows right now, what did you have for breakfast? Chocolate syrup?” joked Kei as he watched the tallest of the group strut around the dressing room flourishing skilful twirls now and then, knocking a snoozing Yuri off the armchair.
“It was chocolate syrup and waffles with whipped cream and strawberries!” Yuto exclaimed, sparkly eyes and all as he threw his arms up into the air. Hikaru merely grunted, sipping on his coffee. Yuri climbed back onto the armchair, threw Yuto a dirty look before curling up against the cool and soft material.
“Hey go easy on the carbs man,” Yuya chided, poking his own abdomen looking a tad bit annoyed.
“Speaking of carbs Yuya, did you gain weight? I think I see a double chin,” Hikaru shot from his space near the water dispenser and smirked as the other paled.
“Ignore him Yuya,” drawled Kei as he watched Hikaru drain his coffee with disapproval.
Kota sighed. It was very obvious that no one had gotten any sleep last night. He leaned back against the wall, remembering the conversation between Hikaru and him.
“Are you serious? How did you find that out?”
“I’m not really sure, but as soon as it started raining, I had an idea of where he was…and I felt blood,”
Hikaru frowned.
“This is creepy but now that you come to think about it, he had changed his clothes before coming back to the apartment, and he might have contacted Sakura first because of her healing ability,”
“Why isn’t he telling us anything? And how did he learn to block Daiki out?” he added.
“I think, he just doesn’t want us to worry, but that makes me feel like he’s got a lot going on that he’s hiding,” Kota replied sighing heavily.
Keito walked over to the table with their food and smiled slightly as Ryosuke, who was already there passed him a plate.
“Hey Ryosuke?”
“Hmm?”
“Daiki, he was just…,”
“I know Keito, and I’m sorry if I sounded rude last night, but I seriously need you guys to give me a little bit of space, you know I will definitely count on you when I’m in trouble that I can’t handle, just trust me to take care of myself for now,”
Keito nodded, happily accepting the rice Ryosuke was filling his plate with.
“I’ll…go talk to Daiki personally too, so don’t worry alright,” he said giving the older boy a reassuring smile.
“Okay, great but Ryosuke stop I can’t eat so much!” Keito exclaimed staring horrified at the rice mountain the other had built on his plate.
“Um, guys…there’s someone who wants to speak with you,”
Every interaction and…lack of was brought to a stop as their manager walked in the room, looking a little pale.
“Who is it?” Daiki asked over, pulling off his headphones.
“Detective Tanaka,”
Yuto felt a chill down his spine as the man walked in, memories of his horrible night at the station flooding back in.
“I hope I’m not disturbing,” he spoke, calmly…very calmly. Kei and Hikaru both looked at Kota and relaxed slightly as they found him attentive but calm as well.
“Is there a problem sir?” the oldest of the boys asked approaching the detective before he could proceed further into the room.
“I have a few questions, it won’t take long,” came the reply. Kota frowned but nodded nonetheless.
“What is it?”
Detective Tanaka took what seemed like a very deep sigh before pulling out a picture from his coat pocket and showing it to them.
“Firstly, do you know this child?”
Kota stared at the face, concentrating as somewhere in the back of his mind, recognition sparked. Hikaru and Kei hovered by his shoulder, scrutinizing the photograph interestedly.
“I know! Isn’t he the new trainee we see tailing Ryosuke all the time?” Hikaru said suddenly as Kota watched as how the detective’s face turned an unpleasant shade of red.
“Tanaka Jun, yes, he joined the agency fairly recently, he’s your kouhai,” spoke the man, placing the photo carefully back into his pocket.
“What about him?” Yuto asked cautiously.
“He was gravely injured and now lies in a comatose state, he was discovered by a colleague of his, who remains anonymous but I need this ‘anonymous’ to tell me who dared do such a thing to my son,”
There was a poignant silence in the room. The manager, appearing extremely troubled slipped out of the room to get help from higher authorities, leaving the boys alone with the detective.
Kota sighed, arms folded across his chest.
“I think if this ‘anonymous’ knew of the culprits, he would not hesitate to inform the police, unless he did not encounter them personally or has some other plausible reason,”
“Or, maybe he just didn’t care…didn’t want to get involved in a sticky situation or what do you people call it…scandals?”
Ryosuke clenched his fists, heart pounding in his ears, eyes upon the floor. He wanted to speak; there was so much he wanted to say but it would only make things worse, he knew it.
He felt so helpless. There really was no way out of this...mess.
He was becoming more and more aware of his breathing. Every heave seemed to take an effort.
“Detective, I’m sorry for what happened to your son…but none of us will be of any use to you, we hadn’t known him long enough to know much about him,”
The man chuckled darkly, making Kota frown.
“I knew you guys were trouble ever since the day that boy was brought to my department,” he spoke, jerking his head towards Yuto who glared in return.
“I should’ve kept Jun away from you…you probably got him involved in something fishy,”
“Your point is Detective?” Kota retorted, his temper getting the better of him. He understood how painful it must be for the man but he had no right to accuse them this way either. Detective Tanaka shook his head, a cynical smile in place.
“Of course, you guys are pretty big stars right? What does it matter to you if Jun got hurt? You must have so many admiring little boys gawking at you, making you their role models, learning everything they can about you…your favourite colours, disliked food just so they can follow in your footsteps, what does it matter to you what Jun liked or disliked or what troubles he has…,”
“Detective, I assure you, as soon as we find something out, you will be the first to know,” Kota interjected and the man gave him a look before sighing.
“That’ll be great help,” he spoke with a shrug.
He gave them a slight but stern bow which only Kota returned before leaving the room with the Manager.
“Poor little Jun, wasn’t he the energetic little boy always bouncing around the juniors’ practice room?” Kei suddenly spoke up.
“Oh yah I remember him, he’s like Ryosuke’s biggest fan at the moment,” Keito added with a chuckle.
“Or he claims to be, I wonder what happened?” Yuri asked curiously.
“Ryosuke?”
All eyes turned to the boy leaning against the wall, hand clutching the front of his shirt. His eyes were shut tight and he was breathing heavily.
“Ryo-chan what’s wrong?” Yuto asked concerned and almost yelped as he fell on his knees. Daiki and Kei were next to him in seconds.
“Ryosuke calm down!” Daiki shouted as the boy continued gasping for breath. Kei was rubbing circles on his back, looking terrified.
“What in the world…?” Hikaru began as Kota pulled out his phone.
“It’s a panic attack!” Yuri exclaimed as Keito and Yuto rushed out to get help.
“Ryosuke…please…calm down,” Daiki cooed placing a cool palm on the boy’s hot forehead. He stared confused as Kei placed his own palm over his but blinked in shock as Ryosuke fell limp in his arms.
