Okay, I’m going to be changing the storyline of Entourage around a little, but it’s all still going to follow pretty much. I outlined the entire story to its end today in class, and it looks like it’s going to be a long one! What did I get myself into...
Signing the contracts for Spiderman was gratifying in a way that Mark had never felt before, but it doesn’t even begin to compare to what comes after. The Amazing Spiderman is filming right in LA, which means that Mark doesn’t have to leave work and still gets to spend time with Wardo while he’s on location. These are the kinds of situations that Mark loves, and filming goes off without a hitch. The movie’s been generating constant buzz ever since it was announced that Eduardo would be taking the lead.
Pictures had been leaked from the set two months into filming, only adding to the hype and mystique of the whole thing. Every girl across the country was creaming her pants to the promotional pictures of Eduardo, and he was looking at a franchise worth potentially billions of dollars. Filming went off without a hitch, Cameron was a dream to work with, and that’s that.
But tonight is the premiere. Christy, Eduardo’s publicist had harped on and on about how he’d need to bring a date. Mark could almost see where she was coming from - this would be Wardo’s first real appearance in the public eye, but he was quietly glad over the fact that Eduardo hadn’t found anyone. He’d wanted to fly his mother out and take her, but she was ‘too busy’ to make it, something that not-so-quietly enraged Mark.
(“I can’t believe it! ‘Too busy,’” he mocked, scowling into his phone when Eduardo relayed the news. “Your parents are assholes.”
Eduardo had huffed out a laugh that sounded mostly forced, but he didn’t show how upset he really was. Even over the phone, Mark knew him so well. “Yeah, well. You’ve got my tux taken care of, right?”
And that was that.)
Needless to say, the premiere is glamourous and Mark explicitly instructed security to make sure Sean Parker can’t get in- this is Eduardo’s big night and nothing is going to ruin it. So they walk down the red carpet together, and Mark envisions the headlines in his head. Breakout star Eduardo Saverin at the premiere of his new movie, The Amazing Spiderman, with superstar agent Mark Zuckerberg, and yeah, okay, that was a pretty perfect alternative.
Christy’s happy because Eduardo and Cameron have a really touching photo-op and casual conversation that doesn’t look staged, and she’s fielding calls from people all night, will Mr. Saverin meet my client, and it’s kind of cool that she actually has real work to do now. Maybe now she’ll stop pestering Eduardo about being seen with the right people, maybe now she’ll get off Mark’s case and fuck off to do whatever it is her job actually entails.
Mark hasn’t seen the film in its entirety until tonight, and it really is kind of spectacular. Eduardo had set some kind of record for the youngest actor to ever do a majority of his own stunts, and he’s glowing with pride, beaming throughout the whole 112 minutes of red-and-blue spandex glory. Mark sits next to him and watches him in the dark theatre. He looks good in his tux, but he also looks good because he is so happy, and Mark is inordinately proud of this thing he helped to make- not the movie, but Eduardo’s persona. He relishes the time he gets to spend with him, even alone in this dark theatre because after, just like Mark had suspected they would, everyone wants to talk to Eduardo. It is a flurry of camera flashes and microphones and Mark does not sleep at all, going straight from the premiere’s after party back to his office to refresh and refresh until the numbers finally come in.
Eduardo and Dustin and Chris stroll in at 8:30, and the three of them sit around and pretend not to be nervous wrecks while they refresh and refresh and wait for the Variety report that will come in at 9.
“Jesus, Mark,” Chris says, smirking as he pushes up his designer sunglasses into his hair, “You look like shit.”
Mark opens his mouth to snap back, but Eduardo is frowning at him, “Did you sleep at all? Oh... my god, did you come here straight from the party?”
