I have a finicky PC that I built from parts about a year ago. It has always had a problem with rebooting, and I want to fix it. Any advice on how to go about it

I've seen similar symptoms a few times, caused variously by power supply, motherboard, and video card. Well, by "caused", I mean "fixed by replacing". My theory on all of them is that there was something heat-related that had gone wrong and was excercised more heavily at initialization/startup, so it didn't (visibly) effect operation once running. At least one time I've also had a short underneath the motherboard that caused spontaneous reboots, but it wasn't nearly as consistent as "only has problems when rebooting when hot".
If you've got a decent place to try it out, start by running it with the case open and a desk fan blowing into it. Then try a different power supply. Then give up and buy a new rig.
OK, new power supply purchased. Probably will take me a couple days to get around to installing it.
I've seen the BIOS freak out a couple times and try and restore itself from its backup, including after this most recent mess. I don't know what that means, but I also can't remember the motherboard model to figure out what it takes to update it. But I'll figure it out.
