Almost two decades now; it all feels oddly distant compared with current worries.

It was 17 years ago today, now, and increasingly feels like something that happened to someone else. That's probably a good thing, and I'm certainly glad that the pain has diminished; I just wish my other memories hadn't diminished in the same proportion. He doesn't seem as vivid to me now, and I regret it, but... maybe there's no way to win this

My sister's cat Lucifer was diagnosed with stomach cancer last month; he's been growing steadily weaker and less interested in life (even in especially Lucifer-y things, like food) ever since, and she finally had him put to sleep this morning.

R.I.P. Dennis Hopper (1936-2010).

...but thankfully not much different from any other day. Not forgotten, but largely healed.

Sad news for fantasy-art fans...

R.I.P. Alex Chilton (1950-2010), lead singer of the Box Tops and astonishing singer/songwriter/guitarist of Big Star.

Astonishing that he even made it to 59, all things considered; for anyone who's ever listened to the third Big Star album (Third or Sister Lovers, depending which version you got), it's amazing that he made it to 30.

...Dick Francis (1920-2010), whose sequence of horse racing-related thrillers were an integral part of my life from childhood. His books were among the first that I can remember borrowing off my Mum's shelves - Francis was in the family well before I was - and they hold up for me even now: I re-read the full set every five years or so ( Read more... )
