Harvesting

Man this garden has been a boon in luck and happiness for me. You see, things are actually starting to grow. Now that we seem to have past our mildly cool early-summer period, all the plants are really catching. The sweet peas have tasted crisp and sweet, the tomatos are finally flowering and in some cases fruiting. And the corn! you know the saying that lets you know your corn will be ok, "knee high by the 4th of July," well we may not be growing edible corn (it's ornamental) but the tops are up to my neck already! Herbs are doing well, and beets, doubly so.

But that's not what's provided the best part for me. Getting outside in the middle of a work day, massaging the earth, seeing something I'm working at come to fruition. That's what I needed in my life. Somehow good things always happen to me when I've been out working the garden. Take this past saturday as an example. I was out sweating away weeding, agitating the dirt and staking the tomato plants, when I find out a friend of mine I grew up with stopped by to say hi. I hadn't seen her in a few years, families and kids kept us busy. It was great, we did the obligatory phone # echange, but I'm positive this time I'll keep in touch with her. Things seem better, somehow. I'm off to sow some more beets and peas...
