The wind rushed past her legs and face as she fell down towards the ground before strong hands on her back pushed her back up. “Yay Daddy! Higher! Higher!” She seemed to swing for hours before falling into her father’s arms to sleep only to awaken moments later by the sound of wood splintering and heavy boots running into the room.
“Adam and Kerry Johnson you have been found guilty of conspiracy against the government. The punishment for your charges is death.”
Leilani Hunter woke instantly. It was the third time that she had had this dream. She had never met the man who was her father in the dream; her real father lay in the next room asleep.
“Did you have it again Lani?” her little brother had propped up on one elbow and was looking at her concerned.
“Yea, don’t worry about it though I’ll be fine”
“Mom said your supposed to report dreams if they happen more than once.”
“I know, I will in the morning now go back to sleep. Tomorrow is your first day at school, you don’t want to be sleepy the whole time do you”
“No… Goodnight Lani.”
“Night, Stephen.”
She watched as he lay back down and closed his eyes. There’s no way she’s going to report that dream. She had reported dreams before sure, but none about having parents who were rebels. Her real parents might not be active rebels but they were rebels none the less. She couldn’t draw attention to that. She decided to talk to mom about the dreams in the morning and went back to sleep.
“Mommy, Lani had the dream again!”
“Oh really, what dream is that?”
“I don’t know she won’t tell me but she’s woken up because of it for the past three nights and I tried to tell her you’re supposed to report all dreams if you have them more than once but she still hasn’t!”
“It’s nothing Mom I’ve just been watching TV before bed and it’s giving me some weird dreams. It’s nothing worth reporting.”
“Ah, is that so. Stephen go finish getting ready and clean your room.”
“But..”
“Go! Now, Honey, tell me about these dreams. You know what would happen if someone finds out that you haven’t been acting the way they want.”
“But Mom it’s stupid. You know it is. Why should we have to report it every time we have a dream.”
“It is but there’s more than that to it isn’t there? Why don’t you want to report it?”
“I just don’t think that it would be safe for me to. In the dream, I’m three years old again and my father is pushing me on a swing, but its not Daddy, and then we are at home and the police rush in and they arrest both of my... parents... for conspiracy and they tell them they will be put to death for their crimes.”
“Is that all that you remember from the dreams?”
“No. They are really realistic, almost like memories. Their names are Adam and Kerry Johnson. He had short blonde hair and was only a little taller than she was. She had long red hair and these stunning blue eyes. I could almost feel their arms around me and hear their crying…”
“I see… Your right, Lani, it’s probably best that you don’t report this, not just for your father and my safety but for yours and Stephen’s too. I’ll talk to him and make sure that he doesn’t say anything about it. Just try not to let the dreams get to you and tell me the next time you have them, or if you remember anything else from them.”
