I took Colin to St. Louis for his birthday on saturday. For the most part it was fun... but the ending was kinda disastrous! I didn't get off work until noon, so we didn't end up getting out of town until about 1:30. Colin is so gullible too... I surprised him and he didn't even notice until we hit Hannibal and I needed directions!
Well anyways... I took him to the City Museum. This is the most awesome place!! Everyone has to go. I went a super long time ago with Erin Kennedy and her family and they've added a bunch of new stuff since then. It's not even really a museum because you get to do everything. Well anyway... we left the museum to go to church at 5pm at the cathedral (which is absolutely gorgeous). After church... about 6... we decided to go ahead and eat dinner before heading back to the museum. You'd think that there would be somewhere to eat in St. Louis. Nope... two hours later we still hadn't found anywhere to eat!!!
By now we're pretty much starving so we decided to go ahead and go to Belleville, which was the second part of our trip, eat on the way there, and then go back to the museum on our way home since it was open until 1am. Of course getting to Belleville wasn't easy. Nothing is when I'm driving!! Mapquest sucks.... we got lousy directions and got all kinds of lost. Finally I just pulled out the map and made up my own directions.
So we're finally cruising towards Belleville and Colin sees a sign for this restaurant that he loves, O'Charlie's... O'Henry's... O'Something! Of course it's on the exit past the one we need to get to Belleville... but being the wonderful girlfriend I am... I went anyways. Of course we couldn't actually find the place once we got off the exit!!! So we went back to the Belleville exit and went to Olive Garden. They hand us that stupid little light up thing and tell us it's going to be about an hour wait. I think we both almost started crying. So Colin ran over to Applebee's, which was right across the parking lot, to see what their wait would be. I sat at Olive Garden for like 15 minutes waiting for him to get back. He finally comes back to tell me that he got a table right away and was just sitting there!!! He didn't want to get up and leave right away.
So we finally get to eat... by this time it is after 9pm. I was taking him to Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville. They have all kinds of events that go on.... a Christmas tree display, a live nativity, etc. Of course all of that ended at 9pm. The Way of Lights (the most awesome display!) went until 10pm, however, so we went ahead. To shorten this story slightly, we had to stop at 3 gas stations to get there.
So we finally get back to the museum at like 10:30pm. It's way cooler at night. They have this HUGE "playland" (for lack of a better word). They blare rock music at night and you can run around in this thing. It's set up so the top part is like trees with little huts and things, and the bottom is like a cave. There are all these little places to crawl and climb and stuff and all these passages that lead all over the place. There's even a waterfall that'll get you wet if you get too close. It's just awesome!!!
Well, I'd been up since 5am that day since I had to open, and after running around this place for about an hour, I was pretty tired and so was Colin. So we decided to go ahead and start our two hour drive home. We should have been home by about 1:30am. We got home at 4am. Of course we went the totally wrong direction for like 45 minutes before we even noticed!!! We were both completely dead by the time we finally got back to Quincy. Needless to say we spent the majority of our fun filled day in the car!!!!
