Sometimes people get married knowing each other pretty well, though. I'm not going to write a whole dissertation on it :P but here is one of my theories on why it falls apart: too many people just don't work at it anymore. I mean, they go into a marriage with the idea that if it doesn't work out they can get a divorce. When I get married, I will know going in that divorce is not an option. The only Biblical justification for divorce is infidelity on the part of your spouse. In fact, technically people who divorce because they just don't like each other anymore or whatever aren't actually divorced at all. I mean, they are according to the law. But not according to God, and that's really all that matters. (sort of like how I said gay marriage doesn't exist because God defined marriage as between a man and a woman.) Anyway, way too many people go into their marriage with an escape plan ready - i.e. prenuptial agreements - when they should be going in with the notion that divorce is simply not an option at all.
If there's abuse, then I don't know - move out or something. But if you're having problems, it's time to decide to love that person and honor your marriage vows.
Well, there's my opinion. (Though I did agree with most of what you said.)
If you disagree with any of that, feel free to tell me. :-)
