In-Game Character Information
Name: Serah Farron
Series: Final Fantasy XIII
Age: 19 (18 in canon, but aged up so she can be a teacher, and to match in with her big sis 8D)
Phoenix:
Serah is awfully mature and brave for her age, often expressing wisdom well beyond her years. This is partly because of her older sister’s influence, and partly because she was forced to become independent after her parents died and Lightning became an Auror, leaving her by herself. She is also a very intelligent young woman, although she is still naïve in some respects, especially concerning her emotions and, sometimes, the way the world works. She is mostly very mild-mannered, though has a strong sense of right and wrong. Serah is very innocent in some respects, as she has not really experienced the hatred in the world, and has not yet experienced much in life outside of Hogwarts. She has also not experienced much concerning relationships; Snow is her one and only.
Serah allows love to drive her while she is with Snow, falling in love with him in a whirlwind romance-perhaps spurred on by Lightning not paying attention to her once she got the job as an Auror. Still, Serah knows what she wants from life, and she wants to be with Snow, and be close to her sister. She prefers to live in the moment, not thinking too far ahead into the future because of what it might bring… after her parents died, Serah preferred not to think too much about the future at all. Serah is happy living one day at a time, making the hard decisions when she needs to.
Although Serah cares deeply for her sister, she is often frustrated that Lightning still sees her as a child, although she has grown independent and matured into a young woman. Serah feels deeply guilty over the slow deterioration of their relationship with Lightning’s absences and Serah growing apart from her-however, Serah is stubborn and determined, wanting Lightning to accept Snow and the fact that she wants him to be a permanent fixture in her life. Because, even with all her wisdom and maturity, Serah is still a lovestruck teenage girl who wants a happily ever after with her fiancé. She wants nothing more than to have Snow and Lightning as her family; a happy, non-violent family, that is.
She’s also a very kind and caring person; she’s very sociable, like many teenage girls, and makes a lot of friends easily. Serah is the type of person to remember everyone’s birthday and to think of a unique gift for each and every person. Serah considers friendship to be very important, as well as considering her studies and career to also be important. Because of her hard work and determined streak, she managed to fly through Hogwarts with top marks and the world as her oyster, basically.
All in all, Serah can be both a stereotypical teenage girl and someone with too much wisdom for her age. She is a clear thinker, a fast learner and both sensitive and emotional. She’s also a firm romantic. Serah works hard, both for herself and to make the people she loves proud.
Chocobo:
Serah was born to Muggle parents, with Lightning as an elder sister. Although there’s only three years separating them, Serah was always considered the baby of the family by their parents, and was always the more spoiled of the two. Her father was easygoing and friendly, if a little reckless and carefree. Their mother was more focused on responsibility, but very kind and gentle.
Serah’s father died when she was around six years old, in a motorbike accident. Serah was too young to really know what was going on at the time, but has come to deeply regret missing the chance to get to know her father.
When Serah was eight, her sister Lightning received a letter in the mail from Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. At first, she thought it was a kind of joke; until it was explained to them that Lightning was a witch, and someday Serah might follow in her footsteps and attend the school for magic. When Lightning left for Hogwarts, Serah at first felt extremely lonely and abandoned; however, she attempted to look out for their mother as best she could, trying to grow up to be more like her older sister.
Finally, after three years, Serah was old enough to attend Hogwarts and received her own letter in the mail. She was extremely excited to be going, to have the chance to both see her sister and learn magic for herself. Serah was definitely the more social of the two siblings during this time; she made a lot of friends and really grew as a person while there. She was able to come out of her shell completely and show that she was capable of being independent, in her studies and friendships.
After their mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness, Serah struggled with her studies for a little while, worried about her and constantly distracted in class. Seemingly, her mother’s death seemed to reverse this; Serah suddenly became a lot more determined, a lot more mature, and a lot more focused on making her mother-and father-as proud as she possibly could. Serah also tried to be there for Lightning in the same way that Lightning had been there for her while they had been growing up; while Lightning was trying to find a way to protect and provide for Serah, she was trying to find a way to be independent so that Lightning could live her own life.
When Lightning joined the Auror division, Serah didn’t hear from her very often. They grew apart-growing apart even more when Serah left Hogwarts and got a job of her own at the Daily Prophet. It was during this time that she met Snow Villiers; the two immediately clicked, and because Serah had a constant feeling of loneliness and abandonment, the two became close extremely quickly.
It wasn’t long before Snow had proposed to her and Lightning was disapproving heavily of her choice of fiancé. But Serah remains convinced that she can bring Lightning around someday-after their relationship has been repaired somewhat, and they have become closer again like they once were. Lightning quitting the Auror division and getting a job at Hogwarts is definitely a good step in the right direction.
Recently, Serah quit her job at the Daily Prophet and decided instead to come to Hogwarts, where her fiancé and sister are now working. She wants to be close to the both of them-and really, she’s sick of journalism.
Blood: Muggleborn
Preferred House: Hufflepuff
Why you think they belong in this house? Serah is a very kind and loyal person; she also has a very strong sense of her own morals. While she’s also intelligent, she’s not intelligent in the objective way that Ravenclaws are-she tends to think about problems and situations from an emotional perspective. Serah is also a dedicated person, and a hard worker; she gets things done when she has to, however hard she has to work to do them.
Staff Position: Literature teacher, years 3-5
Why you think they fit this position? While Serah has a love of history, she’s also quite a romantic-she loves to read books, and she would love to teach Hogwarts students about books, especially the books that she loves. Serah can be very passionate about the things that take and hold her interest, so she would be perfect for the job teaching the younger students; she would do her best to get them interested in literature and would try to get them to want to continue their studies of literature in the future.
If Professor would you want them to be Head of House? Sure! If there’s ever a vacancy, Serah would go for it, despite her youth. Although she would definitely want others with more experience to come before her.

Journal Sample:
So it seems like I’m back at Hogwarts sooner than I expected! It feels like only yesterday that I graduated from here.
Anyway, hi everyone. I’m Serah… or Professor Farron, or Miss Farron, or whatever else you can think of. I hope you guys all enjoy Literature as much as I do-and I… well, I hope you won’t sleep through all my classes out of boredom. I promise I’ll try to make it as interesting as possible.
Make sure you bring your texts to every class and don’t be late. I think that’s it?
Right, so I’ll see you all soon.

Serah was nervous. But… professors shouldn’t be nervous, right? If it were Lightning’s class, she was sure it would be the students that were nervous-her older sister did tend to have that effect on people. But Serah was new to this teaching business, and she had no idea what to expect. Sure, she’d been enthusiastic enough when she’d been told she’d be taking Years 3-5, but now she found herself fruitlessly trying to stop the butterflies in her stomach.
C’mon, you can do this, she told herself firmly. That’s what Lightning would say. And Snow would say something like “you’ll knock ‘em dead, babe!” and then give her a thumbs up. Serah smiled at the thought, playing with the necklace he’d given to her when he’d proposed. Her smile dissipated somewhat when she thought of the right hook Lightning had delivered upon hearing the news. If I can deal with those two, Serah thought. Then dealing with a bunch of kids should be no problem, right?
Leafing through her notes for what felt like the hundredth time, Serah let out a deep breath. It was silly, getting so worked up like this. She’d loved Hogwarts when she’d been a student here-and she’d gotten top marks in all of her classes. So she was more than prepared for the job. Plus, Serah was sure that the students would like her; she didn’t intend to assign massive amounts of homework, she was fairly easygoing yet not too laidback, and she thought she was nice enough. Maybe she’d even hear students talking about their “cool Literature teacher”. Oh, if only.
Serah tried not to jump when the students started filing into the classroom. Instead, she greeted them all with a smile and tried to look as authoritative as possible, without going overboard. When everyone was seated, she cleared her throat and began.
“Hello, everyone! My name is Professor Farron and I’ll be taking the Literature course this year…”
Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. Practice makes perfect, after all, and Serah was prepared to do whatever it took to be the best teacher she could be.
