The Next Doctor: a (small) ep reaction

I avoided watching the series after Journey's End, for obvious reasons.  Emotionally, I can only handle so much.  While Ten II is great, I suppose, I kind of feel like it would have been better for everyone involved if ... ah hell, I dunno.  I don't know if it would have been better any which way -- I just knew that this freaking series shreds my heart into minuscule shred-bits all the freaking time.

That avoidance lasted until tonight.  I've had The Next Doctor chez moi for two months now, grâce à Netflix. (Also s5 of The Wire.)  Since I'm burning time until I can download LOST, I decided to bit the bullet and watch it.

Initial thoughts?  I really loved it, and it was so nice being with the Doctor again.  I had missed going on adventures with him!!  I missed discovering and learning and having such an alien way to look at humanity.  I wasn't one bit surprised when he offered Miss Hartigan one last chance, because everyone deserves a second chance.

A few things:  Rosita's attitude was way more Martha than it was Rose.  When either  Jackson or the Doctor (can't remember whom) suggests she stays behind, she gets all "AS IF!" the way Martha did.  Made me miss / appreciate Martha for the first time in a long time.  As in, the only time I've appreciated her was at the end of series 4 -- nothing before that.

David Morrisey is teh!sh!t.  I really enjoyed him as the sort-of-Doctor and was slightly disappointed to find out he wasn't some incarnation from some timeline split down the line or something.

(I'm watching the 2008 Proms -- it's on this DVD from Netflix.  Murray Gold is really punkishly hot!)

And ... the end of the episode, where Jackson Lake invites him to Christmas dinner ... does it have to make me cry?  Seriously.  As you do, I'm sure, love the Doctor with that special corner of your heart -- didn't it tear you to bits when he said his companions all left him or forgot him?  It's just not fair.  =(

Anyway, I'm done being melancholy.  I'm glad I watched it, if only to have a new episode to enjoy!  I kind of want to catch up before 5 starts, but I dunno if I can handle it all.

ETA:  Apparently, Murray was not conducting ... some hot guy named Ben Foster.  Sorry!
