Day 5: 20 (+3) BSB Music Videos
So I started out with another idea for today's post altogether, then I realised I *gasp* did not have many pictures for the theme I was going for, so today I'll take you on a music video retrospective of their career.
This however, means that there are more than 20 things in this list. Ah well. Also their official VEVO account on Youtube has disabled embedding, which is the only reason why this will now be a list of links to Youtube rather than embedded videos. SIGH.
1. We've Got It Goin' On
Aka video idea swiped directly from NKOTB, after which *NSYNC swiped the same idea. Of course now we know none of this was their fault, so let's move on.
Best thing about this: Kevin pumping iron. Mreeeeow.
Worst thing about this: Fat Bastard.
2. Anywhere For You
Aka the video where they got attacked by random seagulls and they try to be Boyz II Men. They sure look cosy in those sweaters though. Oh Kevin, you really were stupidly gorgeous even back then.
Best thing about this: Shirtless boys on the beach.
Worst thing about this: NGL, I'm not to fond of this song.
3. Get Down
Best thing about this: The window washing dance move (you know which one), and "I feel like Kevin when I look in your eyes"
WOrst thing about this: I'm not sure, I can't stop laughing long enough to tell you!
4. I'll Never Break Your Heart
I'm choosing the European version of this, aka the first and best version, okay. Plus it's got Kristin. "Awwww guys, you know she just broke up with her BOYFRIEND!"
Best thing about this: Kevin's sexy talking voice. EIther that or AJ trying to mack on Kristin.
Worst thing about this: It is cheesy. Oh so cheesy. (But I still love it)
5. Quit Playin' Games (With My Heart)
Best thing about this: Howie's wet torso. DON'T LIE, YOU LOVE IT TOO.
Worst thing about this: Barely legal wet!Nick. Even as a 12 year old I felt dirty looking at Nick all young and wet. Ahem.
6. Everybody (Backstreet's Back)
Best thing about this: EVERY FUCKING THING ABOUT THIS MUSIC VIDEO IS PERFECT. But special props to AJ's fake tattoo and Timbs. He was really rocking them Timbs.
Worst thing about this: Except maybe the creepy bus driver. And the giant plot loophole. And what the hell was exactly in Brian's bed?
7. As Long As You Love Me
Best thing about this: The chair dance.
Worst thing about this: I never really was interested in the girls. Boring and in the way, yawn. Although I hear one of them is now going to be on Blue Bloods playing Donnie's new partner. (But she was also in Jordan Knight's Give It To You video.)
8. All I Have To Give
Best thing about this: AJ. There is nothing wrong anywhere. Even the stupid clothes work on him. Also, hello man cleavage! Thank you AJ and Kevin and Howie! Special mention to the face Howie makes when he hits that high note and when AJ's all silhouetted against the wall doing the hat dance. THE HAT DANCE.
Worst thing about this: That they cut out a scene of Kevin fully shirtless and of the boys lying down on a wet floor.
9. I Want It That Way
Best thing about this: An iconic video for an iconic song. This was when they really blew up big time everywhere. Good times, good times.
Worst thing about this: The number of stupid parodies that came after this. Some of them, like Blink 182's All The Small Things video, were excellent. Others, not so much.
10. Larger Than Life
Best thing about this: More than ten years later, I still love the concept. It's just a really, really good music video. AJ IS ALSO WEARING THE HALF-SHIRT \o/
Worst thing about this: Howie getting the short straw. What exactly did his room do again?
11. Show Me The Meaning (Of Being Lonely)
Best thing about it: Possibly the best music video in terms of acting.
Worst thing about it: Brian in the hospital bed. :(
12. (I'll Be) The One
Best thing about it: I love behind the scenes stuff of anything because there's always fun clips of the boys being stupid. Special mention to Brian strumming that guitar case.
Worst thing about it: Kevin Scott Richardson, I will never, EVER forgive you for the split second editing segueways in this video. For someone who talks so slowly, the pace of all the switches in this video is dizzying. CALM DOWN!
13. Shape Of My Heart
Best thing about this: I can't choose. I CAN'T CHOOSE. There's AJ and his fucking hot labret piercing. There's Kevin and Howie pulling AJ's beanie over his eyes along with the lyrics. There's Nick throwing paper. THROWING PAPER.
Worst thing about this: I WANT MORE!
14. The Call (No, I don't know why the official VEVO version uses the Neptunes remix of the track. :(
Best thing about this: Oh god I can't take this. I LOVE THIS ONE TO BITS TOO. HOWIE IS A GIRL. *FLAILS*
Worst thing about this: There was a period of time where I couldn't bear to watch this video because the night of the shoot was the first time AJ ever tried drugs.
15. More Than That
Best thing about this: Kevin and that hair.
Worst thing about this: Nothing much happens here. It's okay boys, just stand there and look pretty.
16. Drowning
Best thing about this: THE WET VERSION is superior. But the dry version is also pretty damn good. Everyone looks amazing and gorgeous here, especially Howie's nipples.
Worst thing about this: They're too gorgeous, I can't watch this for too long otherwise I'll start drowning in their gorgeousness.
17. Incomplete
Best thing about this: Everything. Anything. I don't know, all I know is that this is another one of my favourite BSB videos. I remember being so happy that they had new music out again.
Worst thing about this: I can't think of anything. This video is actually perfect.
18. Just Want You To Know
Best thing about this: SPYNKTERRRRRRRR! \m/ Remember how much everyone was freaking out over how HOT Howie looked in that long wig and eyeliner?
Worst thing about this: AJ in that spandex jumpsuit. Ugh. But props for commiting to the part.
19. I Still
Best thing about this: The best thing is also the thing that breaks my heart a little every time I see it. Switching back and forth with AJ angsting against the wall and Kevin angsting in the bar to me felt like this song was a little about AJ's struggle with addiction.
Worst thing about this: Whatever did that poor mirror do to you, Kev? OMG BRIAN GET UP THERE'S A CAR BEHIND YOU!
20. Inconsolable
Best thing about this: I like how AJ is clearly the only one allowed to drive a car in these videos.
Worst thing about this: The eclipse thing. No one ever got it. I only know about it because I watch way too many interviews for my own good. Bad concept.
21. Helpless When She Smiles
Best thing about this: Very, very pretty video. I don't know why but AJ looks particularly hot here.
Worst thing about this: I still think it looks like a Westlife video. Or was it Westlife copying them instead?
22. Straight Through My Heart
Best thing about this: Um, I like their outfits?
Worst thing about this: Who the fuck thought vampires was a good idea? (I'm looking at you, Jive.)
23. Bigger
Best thing about this: Boys singing karaoke. I also love that little vignette wher AJ's kneeling down in front of that statue looking all wistful and reverent.
Worst thing about this: This was the last music video they shot. Where the hell is the next one?!
