Day 1: 20 Favourite baby!Backstreet Pictures
20th April 2013 will mark 20 years since Brian Littrell flew from his native Lexington, Kentucky, to meet up with AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, and Kevin Richardson in the hopes of joining their vocal group. None of them had any idea whatsoever what would lie in store for them in the next few years.
So, 20 days in April leading up to their 20th Anniversary celebrations. It seemed fitting to work out a list of 20 things related to the Backstreet Boys every day in April until the 20th.
And to start things off, here are my 20 favourite baby!Backstreet pictures, circa 1993-1995.
1.
This is quite possibly my favourite baby!Backstreet picture. They're all young and carefree and excited, squished up in a the back of a tiny bus travelling from school to school doing performances. They just look so eager.

Nice hair there, Brian. Why does Kevin always look (somewhat more) put together even in slouchy clothes? God, I can't remember how TINY Nick was at the beginning!

Matching overalls! Or are those fishing gear...? In any case, I LOVE the smiles on AJ and Nick, and Brian is looking unexpectedly rough.

I don't even know where to begin with this. I'm not sure which is worse, Brian's bright yellow pants paired with that awful plaid shirt with cut-off sleeves (OH GOD THE PLAID, SO UGLY), Howie's bright red pants, or Nick looking like he got separated from the rest of his grade school class. AJ manages to look the most normal here, which is an achievement by itself. Mostly I always felt this was a rip off of that one New Kids on the Block album cover. Ahem.

You could so see how they were trying so hard to sell them as the next NKOTB. This is just trying too hard to be all pseudo-Face The Music, but Howie just looks lost and Nick looks like he should be standing on a street corner. Um. I mean. *cough*

See, this is much, much better. I used to think Brian's hair in this era was ghastly, but now it's all back in vogue again thanks to that British gymnast from last year's Olympics. (Oh god, it's been so long since this picture was taken that his hair is all trendy again...)

I found AJ's young manboobs simultaneously terrifying and mesmirising. Nick apparently also seems to think so. (Stop touching yourself, there's a camera there!)

It's so hard to think that their careers were going to blow up a couple of years from that moment captured here.

Okay so I know at some point, Kevin, Howie and Brian all shared an apartment together in Orlando, and AJ bunked in regularly whenever rehearsals ran too late for Denise to drive them back. What I want to know is: why have we not heard all the crazy shit that went on during those few months?

Don't mind me, I'll just be here in the corner wishing I could run my hands through that hair...

I swear, Howie looks almost exactly the same today, give or take a couple of wrinkles.

That hair is really rather magnificent now that I'm looking at it again after a long time.
