So here's the thing, them lousy New Kids on the Block have snuck up to me. Somewhere in the middle of the messy morass that was NKOTBSB, they completely stole my heart. More than a year later I'm still surprised by this fact, especially since I've been on constant Fannish WTF Mode with the developments this week. And when I'm in Fannish WTF Mode, I get loud. And talk a lot.
In any case, they've simultaneously brought out the best and worst of my inner fangirl. This is not pretty. So when the news leaked last week that they were going to tour with 98* and Boyz II Men, I started laughing. Then I realised that the styling for this tour meant non-stop suits and I got annoyed. Yes, we got plenty of army jackets and boots and skinny jeans with the NKOTBSB marketing, but SUITS. Complete fannish Kryptonite for me. Not to mention Donnie actually seems attached to the fake? hipster glasses he's been wearing lately, and NNNNNNNGH. How am I supposed to resist that?
Then they unveiled their new single today, with an album slated for April.

I'm a total sucker for a killer guitar hook, especially when paired up with a bass line like that. Very, very happy with Joey's vocals on this, and Donnie sounds good! Though performing this song live is going to be extremely interesting, because Donnie so does not sound that good in real life. Both he and Jordan have a tendency to go flat and then have problems trying to correct themselves in the middle of a song, while Joey (to me at least) seems to be constantly listening out and adjusting as he goes along. (This is why I am in favour of every boybander doing their time on Broadway in some capacity) Anyway, this song. I almost broke out dancing in the middle of my office, and the lyrics. AHAHAHAHAHAHA. (Seriously, who wrote this song?)
Though
dazzlingstar probably said it the best when she told me it sounded like a mellower Drive By Love.
Then I realised that Justin had released a lyric video for Suit and Tie. The track's a little lacklustre for a "comeback" single, but again, I am a total sucker for the horn sound he uses at the beginning. If it's one thing Bruno Mars as done, is prove that you can't really go wrong with starting a song with a mellow 50s/60s feel.

This video. akdjf;laskjf;lsafjls I mentioned suits on boybanders as personal Kryptonite, yes? Even the douchey pretentiousness works here. Still think it's a bit of a cop out, but.
(I actually had to call my colleagues over to watch Justin's video, because this was a good reference for our marketing department. It's almost exactly the same aesthetic my boss wants, which, ugh. However, I think I've been working too long next to the marketing and design people long enough to appreciate good use of text and font choices.)
