God, her lawyer sounds like an absolute douchebag. Don't try and get moral on us when you're a LAWYER for the biggest waste of space, money, and air in recent years.
Paris Hilton Gets 45 Days in Jail Paris Hilton was sentenced Friday to 45 days in jail for driving with a suspended license.
"(Hilton) disregarded everything ... and didn't care and kept driving," Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer said.
Hilton, 26, who was present along with her parents, looked stunned when the sentence was read, while her mother gasped.
"I'm shocked and disappointed at the sentence (handed down) by the judge," her attorney Howard Weitzman said. "To sentence Paris Hilton to jail is uncalled for, inappropriate and ludicrous. She was singled out for who she is. She's been selectively targeted. Paris was honest in her testimony. We plan to appeal. Shame on the system."
The judge said Hilton must report for jail no later than June 5.
In the two-hour hearing, Hilton took the witness stand and claimed she was informed by her rep Elliot Mintz that her license was only suspended for 30 days, and that she could drive for work-related matters.
"I never would've been driving if my license was suspended," she testified. "I follow the law. I'm followed by cameras every single day."
And before her sentence was handed down, she stood and gave a statement to the judge, saying, "I respect the law."
"I want you to know I'm very sorry and will pay complete attention to everything from now on," she said.
But prosecutors who sought the 45-day term for Hilton contended she knowingly drove with the suspension Feb. 27, and failed to enroll in an alcohol education program.
Prosecutors called to the stand three law enforcement officers, who each pulled over Hilton on three occasions, the first being her DUI arrest in September 2006. The first warned her that her license may be suspended, the subsequent two officers informed her it definitely was.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the judge singled out what he referred to as the "smoking gun" - a written warning Hilton received and signed after being pulled over by the California Highway Patrol on Jan. 15 that her license was indeed suspended.
