So, about two months until my lease is up and I have to turn my Mini in, unless I want to buy it. Which my Dad pointed out might be smart since it is a 3 year old used car with only 8,400 miles on it ( Read more... )

Why do you have to get a Mini S if you want automatic (a decision that I understand and support in your condition/location)? But with the S comes a wider selection of awesome colors. That and they rotate some colors in and out for each year; there was a really slick gray/blue out for one car season that I'm completely jealous of, but don't tell the Cooper Troopa that. For the love of god don't get a brown car.

I couldn't bear to not have ANY car, ANYwhere that isn't bustling with safe, 24 hour, accessible public transportation. So anywhere besides NYC, really. I know cars are expensive, but I'd feel so confined. What about looking into the kind of insurance that covers people like you who drive like 50 miles a year?

Lexus were the first to pioneer the distance tracking, I believe. Though I could be mixing up my cars; Mercedes and Lexus and similar don't hold my attention at all. But how I first heard, it was specifically used in cruise control mode, when the asshole ahead of you can't keep a consistent speed and you have to constantly brake and reset the cruise control. Brilliant!

Well, I'd have to drive the S again to be sure, but having been raised driving more powerful cars, I am pretty spoiled. I had to drive a regular Mini with automatic while I was waiting for mine to get shipped in, and it was just sooo depressing. Especially getting on the freeway. I'm hoping the S will help compensate, since now I just couldn't just switch to a lower gear.

While it used to be the case that upgrading to S meant a wider selection of colors, alas, on the website now the S has even fewer colors. Basically the only real colors are red, blue and green. (British racing green will never be the same to me after Mad Men this season...) There's also a "spice orange" and hot chocolate, which you are apparently unfound of. The rest of the options are shades of black, my "pepper white" and like 5 different shades of blue gray I am always seeing and mixing up.

Yeah it would be awful not to have a car, unless you lived in NYC, in which case I think having a car would be a constant cause of anxiety.

As for insurance, I know nothing about it. My dad still has all of us on his family plan I assume. I guess it's not like health insurance where they kick you off at 25? Every year he sends me my new proof of insurance card thing in the mail. I've seen adds for those kinds of insurance though. I wonder how they work. Does someone come and inspect my odometer? Do I send in pictures? What happens if I go over? Do I have to pay them a penalty?

Oh my god, that cruise control thing, so brilliant! So so brilliant. How can we get me a Lexus? (Or Mercedes, whichever it is) If only there were a mini Mercedes or Lexus...or not...

But yeah, if you are so inclined go to the mini website and look upon the color choices and despair. Or find one you like and recommend it. I might just end up with white again, but with stripes. Or red. Ugh I dunno. Maybe blue? But blue is so...eh...I want yellow or something! Or I want red but to be the only one with red. Or that aqua color my neighbor has. How did she do that? How much is custom painting...?
