It's getting to be a Smaller World After All

The phrase "It's a Small World After All" for some people brings to mind the creepily chirping Animatronic figures in the Land of Mouse. However, that phrase is constantly taking on a more jarring feeling, at least for me, every time I play with my electronic shackle from hell, aka my blackberry.

As I happily play around with it's little buttons and browser capability I have inevitably downloaded a few apps. My latest acquisition is the Facebook app for the Blackberry (yea, like I REALLY need to know what one of my friends' thought is at that particular moment on my PDA...). Now Facebook has allowed me to keep up with the hip younger generation of my family which is kind of cool...but I am now connected to the ubiquitous crowd of people that includes current acquaintances, old high school friends and yes, even Jr. High.

What's this got to do with my CrackBerry you ask? Simple, it goes back to that app that I downloaded...not only is my phone now automatically reconciling it's phone list with my current Facebook list, including their Facebook name and current info listed on the site..it even replaces the original picture I added to the address book with their Facebook image!

I don't know about you...but while I'm trying to be careful about what I put on my page, I haven't always shown good judgement. So, in the age of almost instantaneous communication do I really have to now think about putting that rather risque picture or quote done in anger that can now be propagated quickly through everyone's Facebook page and possibly their phone which all it takes is one ticked off person or someone who lacks judgement to send to their list? I'm old enough to remember an old shampoo commercial where the tag line was "tell your friends...and they will tell their friends, and so on, and so on..." with multiplying screens of the spokesperson exponentially expanding into infinity.

Just how close have we truly or want to become?

technology, communication, connected, facebook
