Yay for tagging! I think genre tagging is awesome. I should do it, too (not like my tags are perfect or anything). At least I want a "porn" tag now. Even if I only have, like, three porny fics. ;)
Don't forget memories! I tag my fic (somewhat haphazardly at times) but I am better at keeping track of my fic in my memories (and I am not the only one...)
This is absolutely true. For ultimate reader convenience, I think one should have tags, and memories, and a fic sticky. But I don't use memories to browse fic, so I wouldn't know how to advise people on doing that. :)
Thinking about it, you make a post on that and I'll start putting my fic in my memories accordingly. ;)
Well, you inspired me to finally get my butt in gear and start tagging. It's been something I've been thinking about doing for a while, but then I look at two years of posts and somewhere upwards of 130 fics and ficlets... I'm taking things slowly. Doing it all in one go would cause me to pull my hair out, and I like my hair.
Yay! I improved the world! :D But yeah, it would be a lot of work, wouldn't it? I'm forever in awe of prophetkristy to have organized all of gaeta_squee in tags and memories.
I am in total agreement on prophetkristy's Tagging of Awesome on gaeta_squee. That was truly amazing.
You remind me that I don't like my tagging all that much, even though it meets some of the advice you mention. I have some pointless repeats of tags and really, what I want to do this summer is make a fic sticky. I know *I* really appreciate it when someone has made one of those. It makes it really easy to find the fic, in my opinion, especially if it's organized in categories of some kind.
One thing that occurs to me that one could tag for within a single fandom is pivotal arcs in that fandom? People can get obsessive about about certain arcs. Like in BSG, that might be "New Caprica Fic" "Pegasus Fic" or "Demetrius Fic" for example. In Chuck, it might be "Costa Gravas" fic or something. In Lost, it might be "Dharma Institute Fic".
Heh, yeah, really prophetkristy should have made this post, not me. But she's probably a lot more patient than I am. ;) (seriously though - if you're fic hunting for something rare, and you have to deal with "my 2010 fic" tags... wtf? It's very annoying, if you assume that the writer wants to be read. If the writer just doesn't care about readers such as myself, that's fair enough
