Gaius is a character I often avoid writing because his speech patterns are very hard for me to write, what with his vocabulary not having been part of my education. It's a shame because otherwise I'd be writing him all over the place. One thing that has always intrigued me was the possibility that he might have tried to play Six all along, having an agenda of his own. I've forever had that plotbunny where Gaius honestly fell in love with Gaeta but had to treat him like crap to fool Six, and to protect him.

This ficlet is not that story but still it's about things going on in Gaius' head beyond what Six is telling him. Here, I liked the idea that Gaius would choose to fantasize about Gaeta because Gaeta is exactly the last guy Gaius is expected to feel attracted to. Also I like how deception and sex mix here for Gaius because everything seems to mix with sex for Gaius.

That said, I managed to write Gaius fic where Gaius doesn't ever open his mouth, something I've done a lot! :D

The interesting part of this fic is how Gaius uses Gaeta (without his knowledge) as shield from Head!Six's manipulations. I also like the mix of sex and lies, because I see Gaius as both lying about sex and using sex to lie.

Your plotbunny really deserves attention, because that story would be both interesting and fresh. There's a lot of manipulative, lying, cheating Baltar out there. I haven't seen fics portraying him as sincerely in love and trying to protect Gaeta fics.
