Whirl-Wind of a weekend

Feb 26, 2007 13:05

In some cases that title was literal... Friday night I met up with my parents to get Dad's prognosis. He's currently got "smoldering multiple myeloma" which roughly translates to "no symptoms, and treatment is more dangerous at this time than doing nothing, so we're going to wait and monitor him until it gets worse." Apparently people can hold here for years at a time sometimes. So we'll just wait and see.

After that I went dancing with MusicalAsh and her buddy Tiffany. I've got a couple of lessons to go before I feel comfortable just dancing to every song, but it'll come soon enough. I did get to dance about 3 or 4 songs an hour, which is better than the first trip up there already.

Saturday I helped Trav&Gwen move for hours. We started at 8:30, and I helped until about 2. The wind was really, really, really a pain. Moving a king sized mattress, bookshelves, and box springs was interesting. Holding up what amounts to a sail when you're staring down 30mph winds means you get in a real workout.

Then I went back to Dance With Me to take my lesson. Shannon (my (very hot blond) teacher) started teaching me the theory, like the 5 basic foot positions for ballroom, the 5 points of contact for leading, etc. Also we expanded the rumba and foxtrot to where, theoretically, I should be able to do both of them like a champ now. Tonight we add the music.

After that I called Trav&Gwen to find out which house I should go to, and Gwen said "neither. We're beat. Trav's taking the truck back now and we'll finish up next Saturday." So I went home and fell asleep right there on the couch. Exhaustion set in. Done.

After the nap, I made dinner and talked with SweetMelissa about doing something later on, and called MusicalAsh to say that I wasn't going swing dancing that night. She said that was fine, that she was sore from dancing on Friday herself and needed to take the night off too. Then I started watching a tv show on the Knights Templar and Arthurian Legends (which had both Bonnie Wheeler and Jeremy Adams in it interestingly enough) and fell asleep again. When I woke up at 2am, I couldn't sleep until about 4... then I almost overslept my church gig.

Sunday morning I woke up at 7:45 for an 8:30 call to do 2 church gigs. I made it about 5 min late for the call, but luckily the service started at 9, so that was ok. I did 9 and 11am church services, then went home and fixed the music server and cleaned the master bedroom (it hadn't been dusted or vacuumed in more than a month). Then another rehearsal with Full of Eels, followed by me avoiding the Oscars by working on some music reviews.

Which ended the weekend. So I'm done writing this now.
