I remember your theme: sprightly and lively and altogether delightful.” Aw, I would say that is a perfect definition of hobbits!

LOL your summary for this chapter: Gandalf finally answers a question. And not with another question, or a statement meant to deflect or distract. He actually answers seriously. I think I like that very much. He needs to treat Frodo's concerns with respect.

His answer is spot on. Sprightly and lively and altogether delightful is exactl what I think of hobbits as well! Seriously though, it is an answer that makes sense. They are part of the secondborn. And even if their deeds are not recorded by the long-remembering elves, well, the elves have always been most concerned with their own doings. Doesn't mean there weren't any deeds worth recording, just that the Elves didn't think so. Elves can be so snooty sometimes!

I believe he does respect Frodo's questions; his own questions, I think, were meant to help Frodo narrow down his concerns, and to pinpoint just what is worrying the hobbit.

JRRT says at one point that hobbits are closer kin to Men than to Elves. I have always taken it to mean a *spiritual* kinship, rather than a physcical one. It makes sense that mortals would be related in their spirits, but not necessarily genetically.

Well, that makes perfect sense! I hope it does to Frodo. :)

I love the Ainulindalë; an absolutely beautiful creation story--and of COURSE nobody would be left out!
