WOW
so last night was the elefant concert. (i was going to say the elefant show, but...)
wonderful. thats all that i can say.
it was INCREDIBLY empty, i think the count was 49 people and the place holds like 200, so it was a very intimate, if you will, show. on the way in to the concert, there was nobody outside so we took the elefant poster hanging on the wall outside and rolled it up and stuck in the trusty backpack, mainly so i could have a free poster.
we stuck around inside after the show hoping that we could maybe talk to them or get an autograph from them and low and behold, they all walk out onto the stage. and there is maybe like 10 people in the entire room, so i say "what the heck" and pull out my stolen poster and go up to them and ask for an autograph. they immediately said yes and all four signed it right away. i had to be the only american there, like i said there were only 49 people in all, so i start up this conversation with them about germany and they are telling me about how much they like it here and how they went to this strip club the night before in colonge or something and they ask us if we want to stick around for awhile, and who could say no to that. and then as me and my friend simon are standing there talking to them, their record label exec. from germany walks up and tells them how great they played and how he just saw the killers there last week and how much better they (elefant) did than the killers. diego, the lead singer agrees and starts talking about how great the killers record is, but just wonders who is really playing the instruments on the record and how they cant deliver live and all this. come to find out, he told me later that he had never seen them live or heard the record. hm, yeah, he was on something.
but we ended up going to the front room of the venue, which happened to be a bar, and they are all drinking and we ended up hanging out with them for a good hour, hour and a half. it was so crazy, they were like the nicest, coolest guys ever. i had listened to their cd like all summer and never did i think i would be sitting at a bar in germany hanging out with them. crazy stuff. needless to say it was a really cool night.
that is, except for my german tutoring before that. my tutor might be the biggest jerk in the world. he made me read this story out loud and it was possibly the hardest piece of german literature that i have ever seen. i mean, i couldnt even say these words, these words that i had never seen in my life. ive had 3 years of german in school and been here for over 3 months and still havent ever heard of these words. after im done reading, he asks me all these questions about the contents of the story and of course i had no idea. so he goes off on how i dont know near enough vocabulary and how my accent is so strong when i speak. i just dont understand what this guy expects from me. of course im going to have an accent. i was hoping my tutoring would build me up and give me confidence, but no... now i feel like burying myself in the ground and never speaking any language ever again.
its a good thing i went to the concert right after or i probably would have done just that. anyways, heres a sweet picture of the previously mentioned drunken/drugged diego and i last night.
very cool. i think this officially makes us groupies or something.
