Programs can cry (if you look closely, you can see that a tear runs down Clu's cheek as he's being tortured in Tron '82).

As for the afterlife, I think the closest the movies come is "all that is visible must grow beyond itself and extend into the realm of the invisible". Death is obviously a painful thing for programs (examples that come to mind: Tron's reaction to Ram's death and the woman who weeps over her companion's pixels in the End of Line Club), but who knows what their specific beliefs are, or even if they believe in life after deresolution at all. I think you could take this anywhere you want to in fic.

I think I'll agree with Grey on this. Programs seem to show any kind of emotion a human can.

As for the afterlife, programs aren't really created to die like a human is. They aren't born and don't grow older. They're simply created from nothingness. If they return to that nothingness is up to debate, since you can usually recover files and programs so long as the computer isn't wiped. But they do seem to have souls, so again, who knows. As Grey says, it's pretty much up to you.
