New years

My life is in a spot where I am looking to my future a lot lately.  In the past, I would look a lot at my past.  Look at what I've done...look at what made me happy.  Other times, I'd look at just the present.  What games I was playing to make me happy...what I was doing at that moment.  This past year I have been looking towards the future much more than usual, along with the past and present.  That was the biggest thing about this past year, 2008, in my life.  This last year, things seemed to fall into place.  Life seemed to make more sense.  My place in the world became more defined...my relationships with people, whether good or bad, became more clear.  I knew where I stood, and for pretty much the first time in a while, I knew not only who I was...but who I wanted to become.

Dan has been naming themes of each year that comes by.  As much as I loved the idea, I haven't really named my themes up to this point.  This was mostly because each year's theme was not very clearly defined to me.  But this year, I think I have it finally figured out.

Last year, 2008, was the year of establishment.  Foundations were being formed...in all aspects of my life.  I was getting to know Christine better than ever.  We were building relationships with each others' families.  On the job side, I nabbed a great job in the video game industry and began to establish my career.  In football, I began to truly start to watch the game, not just to enjoy it...but to study it...to learn it.  Because of this, 2008 will be themed "Establish."

This year's theme is "Betterment."  My goals for this year are to simply become better at everything from last year.  On a greater scale...to become a better person.

I just can't wait to see how this evolves and turns into actual actions over this coming year.

Happy New Year.

What are your goals for this year?
