My mother got mail from Homeland Security today. Finally, after over three years of background investigation, she is going to become an American citizen. The oath ceremony thing is on the 2nd of April. The thing I find truly hilarious about this taking so long? She's had a green card for over 35 years, and she's been in the country most of that time. When she wasn't, it was because she was living on an American Air Force base overseas. And she's never had so much as a parking ticket. Was she really considered so big a threat to the nation that the investigation took three years? I cannot begin to imagine how boring that must have been for someone.
