Writer's Block: Words that you love and hate

Jun 08, 2007 08:31

What are your favorite and least favorite words? Any reasons why?

My favorite word is joy. Just the sound of the word fills me with the emotion. Joy. I can't say it without smiling.

I also love glorious. It's another word that fills me with joy.

I over-use fabulous, fantastic, and fantabulous, which dictionary.com does list as a word, thank you very much. I couldn't call any of them favorites, though. The over-use is more a product of laziness and habit than anything else.

My least favorite word is the one that starts with a C and is so spine-twitchfully awful that I cannot bring myself to write it or say it. You know the one. It is just foul.

I also really hate annoying, and I have absolutely no idea why. I think because dawnshine used to say it. All. The. Time. And it became, well, annoying.

I can't bring myself to say fart, although I don't care if other people do. I wasn't allowed to say it when I was growing up, I think because it wasn't ladylike (and we all know how delicate and ladylike I turned out to be!), and now I absolutely cannot make myself say it. But I don't hate it.

I'm sure there are more of each, but I can't think of any right now.

I like the Writer's Block thingy. It's like Vox's Question of the Day. Quite spiffy.
