Kitchen: Day 2

Sep 15, 2009 19:28

So the saga of broken shit continues. I really have no problem leaving these guys in my house all day to work, but they really need to stop breaking my house!

Yesterday, the electrician accidently drilled through the 100 year old lead drain trap under the old bath tub. Not a big deal, just don't use the sink or tub and they'll fix it in the morning.

So this morning the plumber arrives and freaks out. They do not make drains like that anymore. Nor do they make replacement parts. Oh, and plumbing like that is not code these days. If he can't fix it with an epoxy, we're looking at new bathtub hardware.

I'm wondering who is going to pay for this. Replacing that part of the plumbing was NOT in our plan. Nor was replacing the awesome 100 year old drain assembly and faucet.

Guess what. I got home from work and the drain leaks. There was water in the floor. Water on the door frame, water on the year old drywall Jason put up last year.

They had to cut into the dining room ceiling to get at the plumbing. It was the only room in the house that was done. Finished and painted! They didn't cut into the painted wall, but now there is water damage on it from the leaky drain.

And I'm pissed! Never would have happened if the electrician was more careful. I can't see why he would have drilled that close to the drain anyway...

On a related note, we now have lights that work in the kitchen, and a switch in the foyer to turn them on and off.
