strings

sometimes
there are hidden truths in every letter
and at other times it just snows

living and dying
is there really any greater mystery than that?
is there really any greater familiarity or intimacy than that?

nihilists paint their minds with black and call it "nothing"
but it's only another dogma
theists paint their world with what they call god
but it's only their own reflection

what need is there for magic and wonderous displays
when I know the miracle is simply in being alive
no matter where I have been, the alchemy is in looking at the sky
and in an instant, my thoughts drop off

today's people develop ten thousand distractions and excuses
and then complain about being distracted and irresponsible
out of touch and disconnected
looking to blame some one or some thing
ignoring the basic teaching of the masters:
you reap what you sow,
if you plant orange trees, don't be shocked when you get oranges.

there are two types of performers in this artful dance of living and dying:
performers who know they are performing
and performers who have forgotten who they are and what they are doing

amazing!

reality can't become any more real than what it already is no matter how much you wish to establish your realism

god is a trademark being fought over as proponents try to get each other to use the correct magic words
I know this because I am a habitual subway rider and I see god's people all the time arguing
wouldn't it be better if they simply argued about whose socks are more comfortable?

sometimes
there are secrets waiting to be told in every letter
and at other times it simply rains

laughing and crying
is there any greater spiritual practice?
is there really any need to look elsewhere for one's "self"?

believers are always suspicious of those who will not enable their fantasy
but it's really no different from anyone else: suspicious of those who will not validate us

the miracle is consciousness itself
radiant and playful

our lives are strings interwoven into a continuity most of us cannot even fathom
there is no "thing" existing without every other thing
