IS IT TIME ????
I woke up this morning to my mobile phone beeping in my ear, apparently I had a missed call from D who was at work. The time of the call was 8.05am which was a couple of hours before I got up and I must admit to being a little worried why he was trying to call me at that time on a Sunday morning.
It seems a friend of his was in getting his papers this morning and asked how his dad was feeling now, D had know idea what he was talking about till his mate who also happens to be a fireman explained they'd been called out yesterday to the old-folks apartments where the f-i-l lives as he'd bloody well fell asleep and left his cooker on with food cooking and it had all went on fire !!!!!! Now sadly this isn't the first time this has happened, but what is angering us is no-one not even the warden called us to let us know and we had to find out by pure chance *grrrrrr*
Unfortunately I think it's time to put the f-i-l in something more akin to full care, as it's becoming more and more obvious he can't look after himself, we actually filled out forms months ago for him to be assessed but we have yet to hear from the social department.
We visit him practically every other day and shop for him buying the easiest of meals for him, but half of them can still be in the fridge the next time we call. The warden looks in on him daily, but he just doesn't seem to be able to look after himself anymore.
The worst part of all this is, as some of you will know, Ds dad lived elsewhere for nearly all Ds adult life and hardly ever saw D because he has a full step-family, who after the f-i-l took ill a couple of years ago decided he'd be better off down here near us as he didn't appear to be much use to them anymore. It's going to be interesting to see if they kick-off if we have to go the whole way and put his dad in a full-time care facility.
