Random addictive music vids!

Hey, LJ friends, how's about a post out of the blue from the woman who never has anything to say? Nope, nothing earth-shattering, just a song I can't get out of my head, and two fascinating video renditions of it: Somebody That I Used to Know, by Gotye--as performed by Gotye (feat. Kimbra), and by Walk off the Earth. If you haven't seen these vids ( Read more... )

Both of these are nifty--and I think the visual for the Gotye version is fascinating, the effect of using the human body (and face) as a part of a larger canvas.

For a while there, I was a wee bit obsessed with this song, and with the Gotye video. Somehow I really love the way Wally (Gotye) captured a very realistic interaction between former lovers, with each one seeing the relationship (past and present) in such a different light. It's the expressions on his face and his subtle body language while Kimbra is singing that really get me. Plus, as you say, the artistic technique used in the video really does fascinate! I'm glad you enjoyed the videos too!

EDIT: Oh, and you might want to check out Gotye's YouTube channel sometime. My other favorite song/video of his is Heart's a Mess, but I haven't come across a song of his yet that I didn't like at least moderately!

I love "Heart's a Mess"! Although I think my current favorite is "Thanks For Your Time", partly because the animation's so clever (pity there isn't a higher-quality version available), partly because I've had quite a few days at work like that.

Ach, yes, "Thanks for Your Time" is awesomely fun!! And that beat/riff that runs through "Heart's a Mess"--isn't that just killer? ^__^

I'm really hoping Gotye takes off and gets out to a wider audience. I just love creative, off-beat music with the addictiveness of pop. If you're going to have a tune stuck in your head for hours at a time (and let's face it, that's always going to happen!), why not something nicely unusual instead of the standard vapid hits?!

Edit: Btw, love your groovy icon! ;)

Thanks! I realized I was making enough music-centric posts to warrant getting a music-centric icon. ^_^
