As always, courtesy of my dear friend
nick730, I've discovered yet another bit of Brit TV to love. This weekend I've watched the full season of Queer as Folk (the UK version, of course) and the two hour film that follows it.
I found this little clip (possibly my favorite part) from the first episode on YouTube. It contains nudity and sexual situations, so don't watch it if that offends or you're under age.

I'm not going to spend time here rehashing the plot (yes, there is one ... it isn't all just about gay sex), but suffice it to say that the acting is brilliant. You really feel like you get to know the characters and what makes them tick, and the soundtrack is completely infectious! I told
nick730 that I'd spent the rest of the day after starting to watch it humming the tune from the opening and I still hear it running around in my head ... but that's okay really as it's kind of like with Mamma Mia; Friday night. It just makes you feel good.
What really surprised me was after I'd told
nick730 how much I was enjoying the show, he told me that all of the actors except for Antony Cotton (Alexander) are straight in real life ... and it just made me all the more impressed with how completely natural and comfortable they seemed with the snogging and sex scenes (for example, the clip above).
I'm debating now if I want to get hold of the US version of the show. If I remember what I read correctly, there were five seasons to it, the first being almost identical to the UK version except the characters' names are different and it's set in Philadelphia. Partly I think it would feel strange now watching it with different people, but also, I unfortunately stumbled across a plot spoiler for a later season and it appears the story goes off in a direction a bit contrary to how I'd hoped things might turn out.
But that said, I'm sure my curiosity is going to win out and I'm going to have to see if the US producers were able to even hold a candle to how it was done in the UK.
For any of my friends who are into slashy fanfiction, this show is definitely a MUST WATCH if you haven't seen it (and most probably have) ... I tend to be way behind in popular television, mainly because hubby is such a channel surfer that I gave up watching much of anything besides House long ago and just read or write when he's home, but also a bit because our cable provider doesn't carry BBC America and what "good stuff" there is generally comes on Showtime or HBO, which we don't subscribe to because we figure that money is better spent on expanding our DVD collection.
