so i found a new gathering technique that works super well, the only thing is i'm not sure how well it would work for doll clothes because their small but if you leave space for it it would totally work! i'm not sure if you know it already or not but w/e ill put how to do it in the cut.
so you need a sewing machine and some crochet yarn, its small but strong and you can find it just about anywhere (i get mine from zellers) you could also use twine or any other thin strong string.
1. make something that has gathers so you have something to sew ^^;;
2. put your sewing machine on the widest zig zag stitch, the length of the stitch doesnt really matter but bigger is good.
3. start with the Yarn about 6 inches from the start of your fabric so you have something to hold on to when it comes time to pull it through, and zig zag stitch on top of it, like your making a tunnel for the yarn, just be careful not to catch the yarn.
4. When you end leave another 6 inches to make it easy to hold onto as well.
when its time to gather just tie one end around a pin (i do a figure 8 wrap around it) or hold onto that end and start pulling the string out. i find it way easyer then basting and then pulling on the thread because you dont have to worry really about the yarn breaking. I do suggest to do more then one segment if you have a really long gather.
if you want pictures to make it easyer to understand ask and i'll see if i can do it later this week or something.
thanks for looking~
