“You look beautiful, Queen.” Bishop said as Mio was helped into her wedding gown, a beautiful black number by two aides. “King is a lucky man to have you.”
Mio didn’t look at him at first, she wasn’t sure what to say. She could tell that there was something about his tone that spoke of genuine admiration. She just waited until the attendants left before turning to face him. “Bishop… I don’t want to do this. It doesn’t fee right.” Her voice was wavering.
“You have no choice, Queen.” Bishop said, coming closer. “For the purity of the Fangire…”
“Shut UP about that crap!” Mio shouted. “It’s all been about what’s best for the Fangire and what’s best for Taiga and this and that and… what about ME?!”
After a moment of stunned silence, Bishop cleared his throat. “Queen…”
“Don’t tell me that I’m not important, Bishop!” Mio snapped. She found it odd she could only speak her mind to him and not be shy about it, but at the moment, it didn’t matter to her. “I am the QUEEN! MY wants and desires should matter! Not just Taiga’s, but mine, too.”
“You are important, Queen…” Bishop murmured, in awe of his Queen’s fury. “…You are important to me.”
Something about his tone made her lift her veil. “What are you talking about?””
He cleared his throat again. “More than you know, Queen… you mean the world to me, but… my loyalty to King…outweighs any desire my heart may have.”
Shock swept over her as his words sank in. Suddenly, she realized the meaning behind the words he did not say. Bishop… was trying to tell her he loved her. “What do you mean?” She had to hear it for herself.
“I wish… I was the one marrying you today, Queen.” He said at last, his voice soft. “But… you belong to the King. That’s the way it has been and the way it will be.”
“Bishop… it doesn’t have to be that way.” She came closer to him.
“It has to be.” Bishop had to be calm and rational. “I can’t betray the King…and neither can you.”
Mio finally stood before him, the most beautiful bride he’d ever seen… and the only thing in the world he’d ever truly wanted. “I can’t marry a man I don’t love.” She murmured. “I don’t love Taiga. I care about him… but I don’t want to marry him or Wataru… I want to marry YOU.”
Bishop was stunned into silence, but he figured, after all of their sneaking around, of the affair, and everything else… eventually one of them would have to say it. “Queen…”
“I wish I could do what I want.” She murmured, looking up at him, her eyes glassy. “I wish I could be free…”
He couldn’t stand it one moment longer and he pulled her into his arms and kissed her. “I wish we could both be free…” He whispered against her lips before deepening the kiss.
Mio wrapped her arms around him, losing herself, wanting the whole world and all these stupid Fangire rules to just disappear.
Bishop reluctantly let her go and looked into her eyes. “You are a beautiful bride, Queen.” He murmured. “I just wish… you could be my bride.”
