Summary: Sakura has finally given her heart away… but not to the man she thought she would…
Nishihori Sakura had always wondered what it would be like to completely give her heart to a man. She wondered if it meant the loss of her identity, if it meant that she would be happy, or if it meant that it was a feeling like no other. Up until this point in her life, she’d been perfectly content to guard her heart the way she guarded everything else that was near and dear.
But… Takaoka Eiji, with his brashness, his dynamic spirit and… his complete brutal honesty, had changed that. He’d told her flat out after they’d become a couple that he would never keep secrets from her and that he hoped she could trust him enough to do the same.
“Takaoka-san….” She’d murmured. “You… want me to admit my feelings?” She was confused and scared all at once. She’d never had to do such a thing before. She was used to staying quiet.
“No, I want you to be honest with me… and trust me.” He kissed her cheek. “Sakura, you can trust me. I’d never betray you.”
His words made her shiver and inside, she felt a wall came down. She knew that in a way, she had already trusted him with her deepest secrets. She knew that after what had happened, they were already closer.
“You’ll have to understand that I’m not used to… being close to everyone.” She was hesitant to admit that.
“I’ve noticed.” He raised an eyebrow. It was among the first things he’d learned about her and the second thing he noticed after her cool, elegant beauty. “But, eventually, Sakura… don’t you want to be close so someone?”
This was true. Sakura did have a very secret longing for someone to give her heart to, someone to share her secrets with… someone she could trust more than anyone else. She was positive that Chief no longer qualified. He was more focused on other things than her. “Are you sure I can trust you?” She asked. “That you won’t use my secrets against me?”
He pulled her to him and kissed her then; swallowing her words and assuring her that every secret she had would be safe. “I may rub you the wrong way, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be trusted. Give me your heart, Sakura… and I’ll protect it until the day I die.”
She was reluctant, but she agreed. She had grown to care for him and her battle against Gai had shocked her as to how angry she’d become and how deeply seeing him wounded had cut into her. Could she be… falling for him? So soon? And so fast?
Why not? He was… interesting… special. He made her want to kiss him and kill him all at once. He set something in her aflame that he thought she would never feel. He made her feel… beautiful and alive. Why wouldn’t she give him her heart and her secrets?
Sakura, nodded and sighed, pressing her head against his chest. “You trust me with your secrets and I’ll trust you with mine.”
“Don’t worry, my Sakura…” He murmured. “I belong to you…”
