Fujimori Tsukiyomi had always known that Philip, also known as Sonozaki Raito, had a vast wealth of information in his head. She knew all about the bookshelves as one would expect her to, but what he wasn’t expecting was just how big those bookshelves would be. Then again… she was very surprised that she would ever be allowed to see the bookshelves in Philip’s head in the first place.
But there she was, standing among rows and rows of books, in a big white space, with Philip standing beside her. She was in utter awe of it all. “Look at this place… “ She murmured, her hand slipping out of Philip’s as she looked around, spellbound. “Have you read them all?”
“I wish.” Philip murmured. “I can’t possibly read all this stuff. Neither could you.” He then looked over at her. “I wish you could see your face right now. You look so… entranced.”
“First of all, darling, I’m inside your head. Second of all, I am seeing your bookshelves… third of all; I can’t believe how much stuff is in here. You’re like Wikipedia, only better!”
“How am I better?” Philip asked as Tsuki wandered the stacks, taking in all the different shapes and sizes of the various books. She didn’t touch them, although she was curious as to what was in them.
She looked back at him and smiled. “I can’t kiss a website, silly.” She giggled and continued wandering, Philip never too far behind her. “Can I… can I look through them?”
At his nod, Tsukiyomi gingerly reached out and pulled a book off the shelf. By interesting coincidence, the book was about the 13 Demon Races. Right next to it on the shelf, was a book about Wolfen. Carefully, she opened the book and flipped through it. She noted that his books were all hardcover, beautifully bound, kind of like the rarest of treasures. She was very careful in her handling, not wanting to disturb anything.
“So, this is where you get your information from.” Tsukiyomi murmured. “So, is this how you figured me out?”
“Yes… although the books said that Wolfen were fearsome creatures… but when I saw you, I thought you were beautiful. And I should mention that I don’t know everything. I Just looked up enough to put things together… but then again…”
“No, it’s okay.” She was careful to put the book back. “Dad was kind of impressed… he only got mad at me because he thought I ran my mouth.”
“I wish the books told me how beautiful Wolfen were. There weren’t any pictures.” Philip murmured. “In fact, in all of my books, there are no pictures. I have to use my imagination.” He remembered how beautiful Tsuki’s Wolfen form was and how soft her silver fur was.
“Some people thought wolves are dangerous.” Philip remarked.
“Do you think I’m dangerous?”
When his hand touched her face, long fingers stroking her cheek, she had her answer. If he feared her, he wouldn’t risk being so close, allowing her such access into the secrets that made him who he was.
“No… I trust you more than I trust even Shotarou. Because I know that were I in danger, I could count on both of you to protect me.” A pause. “I know that if I needed you, you would be right there… wouldn’t you?”
“I would be. A Wolfen has one mate for their whole lives.” Tsuki murmured. “I didn’t understand it until you saw my true form… and there was still love in your eyes.” She looked at him, her eyes shimmering a soft gold. “As long as you are alive, I will stay with you and protect you. I love you… Raito.”
At the sound of his given name, Philip smiled. His fingers ran through her hair and she sighed softly before he kissed her softly. There was a soft exhaling sound and he pressed her against a bookshelf, careful not to disturb the books. Tsuki felt at ease with this and she just let her mind go.
How in the world they wound up on the floor, Tsuki covered up by one of his capes, the two of them spooning, she would never know. All she knew was that she was quite satisfied and very happy. “When my siblings and parents would talk about the bond between Wolfen and their chosen mate, I was always a little confused because I didn’t understand what they meant.”
“What kind of bond is it?” Philip asked.
“It’s something I can’t describe…” She murmured. “It’s something you just feel. Like when I showed you my true form. When you looked into my eyes… I understood…I felt it.”
“Like a deep connection.” He mused, thoughtfully. “Like the bond between alpha wolves.”
“Yes!” She was not surprised that he understood so quickly. “We Wolfen, we live a very, very long time… so we often seek out mates, companions, to share our lives with. Living forever can get lonely without someone by your side. Just ask my Dad.”
His fingers ran up and down what little spare skin he could reach and he was lost in thought. “Is it that what you think is between us? A bond?”
“Yes. Because when I am with you, I feel safe, at ease, I feel closer to you than I do to anyone else. And you must feel the same. You allowed me to see the bookshelves in your mind. You opened yourself up to me and I do you. There has to be something between us.”
He kissed her shoulder gently.
“Yes.” He whispered. “Love.”
