First, my AH called our GC this morning to say, "It appears that you've abandoned the job. Please return our materials, our owners manuals and our house key immediately."
The GC called AH's cell phone back (he knows my AH cannot get cell service where he works) and left a message saying that he had not abandoned the job. He said he had hauled away all the materials just to "clear the deck so that we can see where we are." Mind you, he hauled away things that need to be installed in our house like lighting and things like tile grout sealer which can only be used in the kitchen itself). Then he said he was planning to be at our house for our meeting at 5:30.
Huh? Am I truly supposed to believe this garbage? Or is it supposed to be a polite fiction where he tells a blatant lie which I pretend is true? I don't do polite fictions! Guess we'll see at 5:30.
The meeting with the attorney went OK. We found out that it's illegal for GC to be doing this job at all (we suspected so after our internet search last week--the same search that turned up several court judgments and tax warrants against these folks). Basically the attorney said to tell them we knew it was illegal, that we'd talked to him (he's well known around here), that the local sheriff has been known to charge and prosecute contractors for theft when they didn't deliver (and it would be Grand Theft!). Then to say that as long as our kitchen was completed to our standards by January 10, we would pay them the rest of the contracted money and drop everything else. But if the kitchen isn't finished, we'll be handing the case over to our attorney Jan. 11, and he will pursue both civil and criminal judgments.
So at least we have a plan of action now. And..hey...I was wearing my boucle sweater with the teal blazer and black slacks with totally chique Cole-Haan leather boots! So everything's good.
Plus...I have one diabolical card up my sleeve. I found several links online to his website, but the browser couldn't find the site. So I did a little searching, and it appears he let the site go.
So...guess who now owns his domain name? The one that's linked to all over the 'Net?

BWA HA HA HA!
I'm thinking maybe a headline like, "Looking for So-and-So? He's not here. In fact, we don't know where he is after he bailed mid-stream on our remodel job." Or maybe, "Looking for So-and-So? So am I!" Both followed with details, of course, complete with pictures of the "fine workmanship" he did for us. :-D
