Music: Favourite Tracks

This is all
bradeatspeeps's fault. Yes, I have no self control, I know.

Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor Doctor) - Robert Palmer

Doctor, doctor, give me the news
I've got a bad case of lovin' you,
No pill's gonna cure my ills
I've got a bad case of lovin' you.
This is… such a cheesy song, but I love it. It makes me smile a lot.
(and I found it through a Fifth Doctor fanvid on YouTube. Shhh…)

Carry On Wayward Son - Kansas

Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, it surely means that I don't know
I’m not ashamed, I only know this song through Supernatural. It’s also very cool to airguitar to.

Back in Black - AC-DC

Forget the hearse 'cause I never die
I got nine lives
Cat's eyes
Abusin' every one of them and running wild
Ahhh… the ultimate in airguitar songs. That’s all there is to say, really.

Enter Sandman - Metallica

exit light
enter night
take my hand
we're off to never never land
Well, I don’t actually listen to Metallica in general, just this song. For reasons that involve Neil Gaiman and The Sandman.

The Man Who Sold The World - Bowie

We passed upon the stair, we spoke of was and when
Although i wasn't there, he said i was his friend
Which came as some surprise i spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone, a long long time ago
Well. I’m a big fan of Watchmen. I am also a big fan of David Bowie. Somewhat surprisingly, and based on nothing more than a split-second appearance in the recent Watchmen movie, I decided that this song was clearly about the character Ozymandias. (I maybe ship them, too. Oops.)

Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen

Born down in a dead man town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up
Just an awesome song, really. For complicated reasons, always reminds me of a very particular Stephen King book.

Black Cat Bone - Laika

The water rose the wind did howl
The river looked ready to flood
I left my man asleep to drown
And ran without looking back around
Don’t ask me what it means, or what it’s about… but I LOVE this song, ever since it showed up in a BtVS episode many years ago.

Phantom of the Opera - Nightwish

In sleep he sang to me
In dreams he came
That voice which calls to me
And speaks my name
Um. OK, yeah, I quite like musicals. I saw the movie version of POTO.

This version knocks the entire movie into outer space. Something to do with Marco Hietala singing the Phantom’s lines, I think. If you’re interested, THIS is Marco. Wouldn’t it be awesome if the Phantom looked like that?

It’s My Life - Bon Jovi

This ain't a song for the broken-hearted
No silent prayer for faith-departed
I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd
You're gonna hear my voice
When I shout it out loud
My cheer-up song, for the days when everything seems to go wrong…

All The Myths Are True - Abney Park

Your ancient nightmares, the ghostly legends, all the fiendish tales,
All the myths are true
Eh… AP are my favourite group of all groups… ever, really. This song is one of my favourites, but basically, the whole of their “The Death of Tragedy” album is just fantastic.

Coin-Operated Boy - Dresden Dolls

coin operated boy
all the other real ones that I destroy
cannot hold a candle to my new boy and I'll
never let him go and I'll never be alone
not with my coin operated boy......
So. Ridiculously. Catchy.

(I mean it, it is actually impossible to feel bad or depressed or angry while listening to this song.)

Bad Things - Jace Everett

When you came in, the air went out
And ev’re shadow, filled up with doubt
I don’t know who you think you are, but I know this much is true
I wanna do bad things with you
Got caught in my head when I started watching True Blood, hasn’t left since, and now I have two full albums of Jace Everett in my iTunes….

Airship Pirate - Abney Park

With a crew of drunken pilots, we're the only Airship Pirates!
We're full of hot air and we're starting to rise
We're the terror of the skies, but a danger to ourselves
The first AP song I ever heard. Couldn’t be more awesome if it tried.

Cat People - David Bowie

See these eyes so green
I can stare for a thousand years
Just be still with me
You wouldn't believe what i've been through
One of many, many Bowie songs that I love. This one makes the list for being in a Quentin Tarantino movie.

Everyday - Buddy Holly

Everyday seems a little longer,
Every way, love's a little stronger,
Come what may, do you ever long for
True love from me?
Makes me want to dance every time I hear it, and never fails to make me feel better.

Oasis - Amanda Palmer

When I went to get tested I brought along my best friend Melissa Mahoney who had once been molested
And she knew how to get there, she knew all the nurses they were all very friendly but the test came back posi-uh-oh
OK, so really, all of “Who Killed Amanda Palmer?” is awesome. Oasis is one of my favourites because… well, it’s a bright, cheery, as-close-to-pop-as-she-gets, song… about abortion. And the fact that she makes it work… is just awesome. (Neil Gaiman thinks so too, you know…)

Rock And Roll Queen - The Subways

You are the sun
You are the only one
The heart is blue
My heart is blue for you
It’s… well. Another rock-out, airguitar kind of song.

All Along The Watchtower - Er, Bob Dylan, plus about six other people since

There must be some way out of here
Said the joker to the thief
There’s too much confusion
I can’t get no relief
Er… thanks mostly to Battlestar Galactica, this song is pretty much embedded in my consciousness. My favourite version, FYI, isn’t Dylan’s or Hendrix’s… it’s the version that Bear McCreary arranged for BSG, which is just one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard.
