Yesterday was my birthday, and without trying particularly hard to make it special, it was!
silveringridd happened to be in town for a conference and stayed with us from Saturday evening until this morning, so we spent wonderful days talking, eating wonderful ethnic food, home-made and otherwise, and simply enjoying each other's company. It was lovely and I hate to see her leave.
In the evening, I had my first rehearsal for a new show, produced by Plays and Players, by Joy Cutler -- "Pardon My Invasion." It's funny, irreverent, profound and has a lively freshness to it that you don't often see in new plays. I'm excited to leap into it. It opens on November 3 and closes the 19th.
And then, I feel I celebrated my birthday early by going to Wyoming last week with
kylecassidy to visit family. It couldn't have been a nicer, more meaningful trip. The weather was wonderful, the grass spoke in the wind, Grandpa wove stories out of the past and my uncle took us exploring... seeking out dinosaur tracks, indian teepee rings, petroglyphs, fresh pinto beans.... In between visits to the farm, we walked along the Big Horn River, visited with Myles and Lori of the Historic Hotel Greybull, dined in the old speakeasy under the hotel, ducked into "The Sugar Shack" for an old fashioned ice cream, the "Tournament Queen," where they also sell my uncle's book,
Glimpses of Greybull's Past, and felt like a native. It's impossible to describe the feeling of "coming home." When I step off the plane, I realize that I've lived with a low-grade home-sickness for months and years as it's suddenly lifted.
Our celebrating continues tomorrow evening when we'll be hosting the talented
Eliza Rickman in a house concert. If you're able to come and support her wonderful music in Philadelphia, let us know! We're asking for a minimum $5 donation so that she has money to take home to California with her. There's no one quite like Eliza!
