I guess I'm due for an update of some kind. This one will be brief because I still have to do a 5-page paper, which is due in about 12 hours from now. (Yeah, it may be an all-nighter.)
Despite a terrible January, the Buffalo Sabres are fine again (as I predicted), even though the injury bug hit an all-time high on the season, with up to 8 regulars out of the line-up....Afinogenov, Kotalik, Paille, and Connolly are still not back...and Spacek and Drury just came back recently from injuries. Buffalo played through those injuries, and with the help of Rochester call-ups Stafford (who appears to have earned his spot with the parent team for good), Ryan, MacArthur, Kaleta, Mancari, etc., they had a superb February and pretty decent March [thus far]. They're still in 1st place in the East, though NJ trails them by only five points, and Pittsburgh and Ottawa are down just seven points, with about 10 games left. The Sabres are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to Atlanta today, but before that won two straight (3-2 over Tampa, 5-3 over Florida) and lost a close game before that to Pittsburgh 5-4 in a shootout. In other words, they are playing good hockey and they are doing fine, even with all the injuries. They also got through a couple other rough patches, including a season-high 4 game losing streak. They play the Caps on Wed. and then have a home-and-home with the Leafs Fri. and Sat.
Buffalo secured a playoff spot with their win over Tampa. Even if they lose the rest of their games (which is highly unlikely of course), they're in the playoffs. Great feeling to have that locked up! Regardless of where they end up in the standings, we all know anything can happen in the playoffs...this will be exciting and I'm looking forward to it. I just got confirmation for my Sabres playoff tickets for Rounds One and Two so yes I will be venturing to be very first playoff games EVER next month.
That's the hockey world...on the school front, busy as always but going swell. On the job front, things are going well and I recently had some great opportunities to cover some high school basketball games, as well as a Fisher bball game and MCC women's bball game. Those were a lot of fun and great learning experiences too! Also, I've been getting back into genealogy again, a little bit, though with school it's hard to do too much with that. I've just been getting back to checking/answering/writing e-mails with that whole thing and I've had some interesting correspondences. Hopefully those continue.
In other recent happenings, I just got back from NYC. Got back to Fisher around 5 a.m. last night, after our flight at JFK Airport was delayed multiple times (originally scheduled to depart at 8:25) and we were stranded until it finally left at 2 a.m. The trip was my 2nd to the Big Apple, as I went at the same time last year (always around St. Patty's Day) for the College National Media Conference in Manhattan. It was great fun, and truly an adventure in some senses...Medaille College ended up staying at the same hotel as us and it was really cool to meet them/hang out with them. Also, I got to see Ground Zero (very touching), Battery Park, a Broadway musical called the Spelling Bee (very funny), and a pre-screening of the movie Perfect Stranger which included a Q&A chat with the screenwriter, producer and actor Giovanni Ribisi afterward. More on that trip later...as soon as I get a chance to give it justice (lots to be told!).
Now it's off to homework. Please do leave a comment!
