Kurt Hummel was not an easy person to persuade.

If his mind was set in one direction, there was no way he was ever going to turn around, unless he damn well wanted to. To Kurt, there was a standard that always had to be accounted for, a direction which could not be ignored, and his place in that standard, it was set in stone. He knew exactly what was ahead of him.

He would grow old, but never gray, and live the life he knew he was destined for. He would find a man who treated him well, who embraced his need for loud vocals and louder clothes, who understood that his biting tongue had nothing behind it but affection and a fierce need for the world to leave him be. And that man, he wouldn't throw him away like garbage every time the outside world would look their way. He would stand tall, with his arms wrapped like a shield around Kurt, and Kurt, for all his false bravado and superiority, would let him.

That man, he wouldn't be anything like Noah Puckerman.

But what really makes him laugh, and not the good kind, is how this makes him both incurably happy and overwhelmingly sad, all wrapped snuggly inside a regret he never thought he would ever feel.

Because Kurt Hummel was stuck at fork in the road, a deviant pattern in that ever present standard, and for once in his life, he had no idea which way to go.
