I love da music!

Tonight I revisited Brixton. And boy am I glad I did. I was taken by friends to this absolute gem of a pub called the Effra Hall Tavern and for that I am grateful! It was an absolute joy to listen to the jazz band playing tonight. The Soothsayers rocked. Here is a Timeout link to their recent gig at Vortex Dalston. Funky dub and Afrobeat sums it up I guess.

But what I loved about tonight was also the solid audience support. All around me people were breaking into spontaneous dance routines and really digging the music. There was the older man in the zebra-striped hat and pin-striped suit, just scatting away to the music and getting jiggy with it. There was the young black guy practically about to break out into a breakdance routine. There were the white dudes bobbing and slapping the table and trying to look 'with it'. The caribbean fella that was doing amazing neck extensions and slapping his thighs. It was fantastic! I had wine, and friends and music.

Then after the gig we headed to the Dogstar pub which turns into a club late at night. Tonight was Roots Vibes night, which meant reggae. Unfortunately it was pretty quiet tonight though I have it on good authority that it's usually buzzing even on week nights. We figured that people are partied out and broke and sticking to their no alcohol, live healthy resolutions post-holiday season. Still I enjoyed the music :)

Other then that I was also pretty busy the rest of today: went to the library, post office, bank. Met a friend for lunch and received a lovely gift of pate from Paris (to share with the SSG). Then stopped at The Brunswick and was delighted to find clothes heavily discounted and in my size at Oasis. Most of the other places tended to have only sizes 12-18 in stock, so I happily went to the dressing room with a pile of size 8s. Got myself a pure silk sleeveless V-necked top (can be worn to work and to dinners), a black tube top trimmed with crystals (great for clubbing) and a very cute hat. For 26 pounds. I love sales and I love student discounts. Also met
vixette7 for tea at Chinatown after I got some snacks and chilli for SSG.

All in all a most productive and delightful day.
