A critic once said that Hanson doesn't follow trends, they make them," is a line I've always felt proud of. Back in 1997, their music felt a little bit out of place with their contemporaries in Western pop. They did not quite fall in the category of dance pop, as did the Backstreet Boys or the Spice Girls, but for some bizarre reason, the three brothers made it to the mainstream. Growing up as a band, their music continued to evolve, but not necessarily with the mainstream pop music scene. Today it is painful for me to witness bands like the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block milk 90s nostalgia by trying to emulate their teenage selves, when they're actually just middle-aged. Heh. This is why I still have a great amount of respect for Hanson, for staying true to themselves (even if sometimes they do produce really crappy music) and forcing themselves out of their comfort zone and growing as artists.
This is probably why I've stuck it out as a Hanson fan for 15 long years now. That, and they're all so damn good looking. I love them so much that I decided to cut my two year stay in Australia short (and miss out on my MA graduation!) when I found out about their concerts in the Philippines. In hindsight, I feel like that decision was for the best and I don't regret it at all.
Jason asked
Reggie, "Triccie will fly back for HANSON?" To which she replied, "you have no idea how big a fan she is."
Of course a lot of this is because I grew up listening to them. Of course they are not The Beatles.
During Hanson's brief visit to the Philippines, I've gone to a press conference, 5 meet and greets (I met them 5 times, yes, and I still can't believe it!), two concerts in two cities - front and center, and a private show for fan club members (yes. I am 25 years old and I am a member of Hanson's official fan club. Sue me.) I would've gone to the airport to welcome them, but a couple of friends from down under visited earlier in the week and I had to be a good friend and host. I kind of regret that decision now. Sorry Heath & Rowan if you end up reading this. Haha!
And the last great part of being a Hanson fan? Sharing the experience with friends. So to the girls I watched the concerts with, Yam, Sanya,
Helga, Aia; and Klassy from 7 years ago, thank you. And big thanks to Yam for bringing Hanson back to the Philippines, and being kind enough to give us awesome backstage passes and insider information (HAH). We never had to line up! Woo! I love you girls. <3

Yes, folks. An entire LiveJournal entry dedicated to my over a decade-long obsession with Hanson. Good bye.
