Moon's room: Danni, Moon

Aug 15, 2004 17:26

With Danni following her from the stairs, Moon walked into her room. She had felt a little burst of resolve - she was going to tell Danni that last night was a little mistake, and there would be no hard feelings, then go and get her breakfast. But as soon as she and Danni were stood in her room, Moon's streak of courage deserted her, and she just ( Read more... )

Danni looked up and made eye contact with Moon. She had to instantly break it, suddenly remembering how good it felt to kiss Moon. She turned and paced a little, nervous and not sure what to say. She knew she had to apologise but she felt that she could never get across how much she had never wanted either of them to feel this bad.

"Look, I errr.... I shouldn't have done that last night, it shouldn't have happened, I never meant to make you feel uncomfortable, cos you're a friend and it's just not on. I shouldn't have done it, I never wanted to upset you and now I have I just want to make things better." Danni knew she was rambling, but she couldn't help it. She wanted to take all the bad feelings away so that her and Moon could be friends. If that's all they were ever going to be, then at least she would have the memory of their kiss. "I'm so sorry, you must think I'm some kind of freak or something."

Standing there, listening to Danni saying everything she had wanted to say herself, Moon was puzzled to find that she didn't feel relieved. She had a strange feeling of sadness, something taken away, and a troubled frown clouded her face.

"I don't think you're a freak," she said quietly. "I..." Moon trailed off, unable to find the right words to describe what she was feeling. "I'm sorry about the way I acted, I suppose I was taken by surprise." All she had to do now was add, "And I'm sorry I don't feel that way about you, but I'd love us to still be friends." But Moon simply couldn't say the words.

Confused, frustrated, and tired, Moon's only outlet was a river of tears. As they trickled uncontrollably down her cheeks, she turned and tried to hide her face from Danni, feeling ashamed of how over-emotional she was being, sobbing into her hands.

Danni had not been looking at Moon as she started to cry, but there was no mistaking what was happening from what Danni could hear. She turned and saw Moon with her head in her hands beginning to sob. Danni didn't think for a second as to whether it would be the right thing to do or not, she simply went to Moon and put her arms around her, trying to soothe her and stop her crying. She didn't think for a moment as to whether Moon would let her confort her, she just knew that this wasn't right, Moon shouldn't have to feel this upset over what had happened.

"Shhhhhh," She said as she tried to comfort her, "I'm so sorry, I didn't want to make you cry. I just...." Danni stopped, she didn't know how to explain what she was feeling. I just have feelings for you? No, that wasn't going to stop anyone from crying. "Please, just tell me what I can do to make this all go away. I never wanted to hurt you, I don't know why it happened, but it has and I'm so sorry."

Moon felt the gentle arms wrap around her, and though her mind might tell her this was not a good idea, she had never felt such comfort as she did now. She leant her head against Danni's shoulder as she let the sobs subside a little, her breathing becoming more regular and relaxed.

After a while - it could have been seconds, or hours - Moon spoke gently, not moving from Danni's embrace. "I'm scared, Danni," she said, surprised by her own honesty. Being close to Danni like this was so terrifying yet soothing, Moon felt petrified, and yet safe at the same time. "I don't know if this is ever going to all go away."

Moon brushed her tears away with her hand, then instinctively extended her arms round Danni's back, returning her embrace.

Danni stood up as Moon pulled away, feeling that maybe being so close was now innapropriate. As Moon pressed her hand against her forhead Danni was instantly concerned, and wanted to reach out to confort her once more. She however refrained, especially now that Moon had said she needed time to think. The paranoid voice inside her mind was telling her that this was Moon rejecting her, but Danni was unsure. She knew both of them had a lot to consider before they decided what to do, if they should do anything at all.

"You know, we've done absolutely nothing wrong." Danni said, softly, trying to reassure Moon. "It doesn't matter what other people think of us. What matters is how we feel, how we judge ourselves for this." Danni asked quietly, suddenly feeling uncomfortable, as if she was invading Moon's space. "If you want some time alone, I can go," She offered, "But if you want me to stay then I will."

Moon listened to Danni's reassurance, desperately wanting to believe that it was true. Deep down, she knew that what she felt for this girl was strong, and could not be defied, and yet the relentless voice plagued her mind. How can you know what you feel? You hardly know the girl!

When Danni spoke again, Moon felt even more torn. Part of her wanted to be alone, away from everyone and everything, to just curl up and hide from her troubles - and yet, she longed for Danni to hold her, to soothe away the torturous thoughts with gentle kisses, and promise her that everything would be all right. How could she go on with such internal conflict? Moon looked up at Danni with beseeching eyes, no longer trusting her own judgement.

As much as she didn't want to, Danni knew that she should let Moon be alone for a while and give her a chance to mull things over, or at least get some rest. Danni could see some heavy bags and dark circles under Moon's eyes, and realised that she mustn't have slept much last night, Danni felt instantly guilty, believing it to be her fault.

She sat down next to Moon, and took her hand in her own. "I'll go and get some breakfast, see how everyone is this morning, and I'll bring you back something to eat if you like, maybe something to drink?" Danni offered. "You should have some rest for now though, you look exhausted." Showing concern, Danni brushed a stray hair from Moon's face. She let go of Moon's hand, stood up and went to the door.

Before she left the room, she turned to speak to Moon once more. "If you need me, I'll be in the cafe." She gave her a small smile, knowing that right it wouldn't probably not be much comfort, but she didn't know what else to do.

Nodding dumbly at Danni's suggestion of rest, Moon realised then just how tired she really was. It was no wonder that she felt so tearful and confused. "You are right, I should rest," she said softly, but couldn't help a little pang of disappointment as Danni walked away.

Moon wearily kicked off her boots and lay down on the bed. She sighed a little as she sank her tired head onto the pillow, she could feel the beginnings of a headache start to manifest. Loking towards the doorway where Danni stood, Moon smiled weakly. "Thank you," she said, as she closed her eyes.

It wasn't long before Moon fell asleep, the harsh thoughts that had taunted her becoming dulled and disjointed, then fading away. For a while she slept the blank sleep of the overexhausted, her mind quiet with an eerie stillness.
