week 4 journal entry

I have already gotten my fill on writing analytical papers about Stranger Than Fiction this week, so I am just going to use this journal entry to express my opinion of the film.

To be honest, I never start a Will Ferrell movie expecting to see cinematic greatness. I can usually get a few laughs and walk away happy. However, this film pleasantly surprised me. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t Will Ferrell’s ability to play a dramatic role that made me like it, but it was the message the film puts out that I enjoyed so much.

The movie had a strong theme of undergoing the transformation from a dull, boring life into a much more fulfilling one. I couldn’t help but find myself very invested in the journey Harold Crick was on. At times it was painful to watch Harold socialize, and really just function at all in the world, but the story does a great job of getting the audience caught up in the drama while still incorporating some very humorous scenes and characters. I was also very impressed by the acting. Will Ferrell was good, not great, but I really enjoyed the acting of the supporting cast. It helped me get more invested in to the lives and stories of all the supporting characters.

Overall I found Stranger Than Fiction to be a surprisingly good film. Definitely not one of my favorite’s ever, but I really enjoyed the plot of the film and found myself thoroughly entertained while watching.
