End of Reading Rainbow
Passing along because I feel it's worth sharing: The End of Reading Rainbow.
I suppose it comes as no surprise to anyone who knows me that this was one of my favorite shows when I was kid. I can't really say it was responsible for my love of reading, but it certainly helped foster it.
While I do agree it's important to teach kids how to read, fostering a love of reading and books is equally important. It is sad to me that there won't be Reading Rainbow there for my boys when they are growing up, as a reinforcement of our own teaching to them of how wonderful books are. And for that exciting day when a book we've read to them is the focus of the show.
Reading Rainbow would have been the perfect "next step" show to follow on the lines of shows like Word World and Super Why that help kids learn to read.
