Getter Robo manga

I got my hands on the translated first volume of the Getter Robo manga! I spoke of the anime already. I shall have to eat my words.

New Getter Robo, with its portrayal of the main characters, is the most accurate of them all. In the manga, Ryouma is an extremely brutal martial artist. He kills or cripples at least half a dozen people in the first few chapters, both to avenge his father's honor and to defend himself.

Hayato is a 'revolutionary' who plans to kill one of the Japanese government officials, and who won't hesitate to gruesomely kill members of his group (like, by gripping their faces and ripping it off) when they don't want to go along with the assassination, with a smile.

I haven't reached Musashi's introduction yet.

The level of violence is very different. In the anime, Professor Saotome's son is a test pilot of Getter Robo, and dies in the Dinosaur Empire's first attack when his prototype Getter Machine is shot down.

In the manga, he is possessed by a swarm of intelligent newts (don't ask), threatens his father, sister, and Ryouma, and has to be put down by Saotome with a flame thrower when Ryouma hesitates to do it.

This was published in the 70s.
