Freestyles amaze me because it's like watching college football. You get the skill and the grit that I find often lacking in the NFL. The game matters so much more, you know? There's a whole different level of urgency going on. So usually I see/hear the freestyles of up-and-comers before they've made it to any sort of mainstream appeal. They'll build up a niche audience, which traditionally wouldn't extend beyond their housing block but now can span entire countries via the internets. And they're hungry, the good ones. You can tell, you can hear the urgency.
But when the pros spit freestyles, it's hit-or-miss. Think of your favorite film actor/actress returning to theater. Sometimes you're Hugh Jackman or James Gandolfini. Sometimes you're Jude Law.
How rare then is the series of freestyles from two different artists that manages to blow my mind?
I cannot wait for Street Hop the album!
